You may think that Doom and Wolfenstein on the Amiga are pretty amazing, but what if you could play Doom on the Commodore Vic-20?
Somebody ported it:

I kid you not,

Wow, its ugly, but remarkable!
If the Vic had better graphics...
Has anyone done this with a C64?
It might be better suited.

Whoa!

Here's a video of an updated version. It actually plays at a playable speed! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob09HWdyXtY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob09HWdyXtY)

Color me impressed that they actually converted the real maps and gameplay - I've seen a "Doom" for the ZX Spectrum before, but it was just a loosely Doom-themed orthogonal Wolf3D type affair. Nice job :D

Well, there's M.O.O.D. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3Oqz5WjDPI
But I must say that I'm more impressed by the Vic 20 version.

I would refer to as a port, I'd guess it uses on a fraction of the original source code. This is more like 'inspired by DOOM', still a top effort though :)

Haha! Nice. I bet this would look phenomenal on a C64 :)

Actually, some amazing new hi-res graphics modes have been developed for the VIC-20, some of which even exceed the C64 in pixel resolution (although with fewer colours):
