Title: AROS or FS-UAE for Mac?
Post by: unknown1 on December 08, 2013, 05:45:28 AM
I have been playing around with this FS-UAE on my Mac for a while and it plays games fine, just not demos, but it looks like to run AROS on my Mac I will have to build it, something beyond my abilities at the moment.

Anyone have a tutorial on how to build AROS for the Mac or does anyone have it ready to install?

BTW: I have a 2008 iMac Intel core 2 duo 2.66 GHz

The AROS live CD boots my 2008 MacBook Pro, so should boot your machine.

There is a hosted version that works on intel macs. That way you can test programs and stay all the time under osx, so no reboots required for loading the live cd.

I think that is what I am using: FS-UAE, the GUI version of UAE. It doesn't have all the options of UAE but I haven't quite figured out UAE.

OK, I have been looking at WinUAE, UAE is Japanese?

Now I'm lost, http://www.amigaemulator.org which I assume is Japanese translates to 'Visiting Nurse'! What's up with that?!?

More searching...

I guess what I need is Hi-Toro???

I have Hi-Toro.  It is a graphical frontend for generating configuration files for EUAE.  FS-UAE is newer and has more intuitive options so if you have FS-UAE running than you can ignore EUAE and Hi-Toro.

I was referring to the osx hosted version of aros. That way you can test aros software without the need of rebooting.

AROS is available on OS X? Did you have to build it yourself?

I think I have figured FS-UAE out. I set my Amiga folder as the hard drive and the workbench CLI shows up! Now to remember my AmigaDOS commands!

It is already build. You can download it from the official page. The one named darwin/intel

Found it, downloaded it, have no idea what to do next.

Looks pretty serious: Dual boot with Windows, modifying BIOS, virtualization or live CD boot. I just want to be able to run it in a window on my desktop. I guess FS-UAE is the way to go with that. It's just that most of the time I try to load a demo or game I just get the 'insert disk' graphic and am stumped what to do next.

Sorry for being so dense, I feel like such a nube after having my A 1200 put away for five years. And thanks for all the help so far guys.

If you want to run new AROS software, the easiest way for you would be to run the x86 version (e.g. the Icaros Desktop distribution) in a virtual machine such as VirtualBox or VMWare. You could also run the 68k version in FS-UAE, but I've found that more difficult and slow.

I have Virtual Box and after a two day download (I wish Icaros used torrent) I am installing AROS as we speak, looks great so far!

I am sure more questions will come!
