Title: Amiga 1200 rebuild...
Post by: haywirepc on December 07, 2013, 03:36:40 AM
Duce here was nice enough to send me a bunch of amiga 1200 parts...

Essentially a whole 1200 minus the shell. (motherboard, floppy, keyboard, hard drive)

I did think I would just build a tower, but seeing as how this is essentially complete (even with the static guard and so on...

Does anyone have an amiga 1200 plastic shell for sale or trade? I figure someone here had to have put your 1200 in a tower and no longer need the wedge shell...

I found some on ebay, but all from england with very expensive shipping, so I'm hoping to find a shell in the USA...

I will also need that little cable that goes to the second joystick port as shown in this pic (this pic taken from a teardown guide...)
See that little cable that goes from the motherboard to the joystick port? yeah  that piece...

Anyone?

Thanks again Duce, I'm going to bring her back to glorious life!

Missing the expansion slot cover, and the diskdrive is defective. Keyboard is working though. Price is 150 DKK which equals ~28 USD. Shipping isn't included and might be expensive since the item is in Denmark, Europe.

I can supply a PCMCIA ethernet card compatible with A1200 as well for an additional 150 DKK.

Let me know if you are interested.

I can't PM you since your inbox is full, so here it is.

I can't give you any discount for not taking the drive or keyboard, but shipping the case to the US will cost 21 USD if the package is below 1 kg, or 32 USD if the package is above 2 kg. This is for shipping as a letter with no tracking or insurance.

If interested, payment has to be made as a PayPal gift payment in DKK.

Oh for f...

It takes balls the size of coconuts to make a claim like that, especially with the unaffected insides and bottom clearly visible for comparison. I've got a sun-baked cream toffee A1200 just like that one meself and I wouldn't dare imply to people considering buying it that it was in "good white condition".

Although looking at the descriptions of the seller's other items I'm inclined to think it's just a mistake in this one. Could be either way really, the bulliest of bullsh##s do float among the sales pitches in the murky pond of web auctions.

Yeah he does have a lot of auctions for them, so maybe he just didn't change the text, lots of copy and paste to expedite posting his items I suppose...

Whatever the cause its funny to see a listing like that...

Still no luck finding a shell in the USA, so I may have to order one of these from england, pay 30 dollars in shipping and then wait 6 weeks for shipping... (SIGH)
Maybe I will just put it in a tower or old pc desktop case after all...

Also I realized tonight that I also need :

A floppy power cable...

ANYONE?

I recall that an a500 case can house an a1200 motherboard with some mods, so if someone has one of those I may also be interested...?

Fair enough, good luck in finding a case.

Sorry Doc, but if I'm going to pay that much I don't want a big crack or hole in the back of the case, good luck with your sale though... Hope you find a local buyer if not for shipping its worth the price your asking.

Just a suggestion... I think if I had a spare A1200 mobo, I would mount it a few inches off a piece of plexiglass with some standoffs. Pop in an accelerator, a pico PSU, a couple of small speakers, USB, Fast ATA, sound card, scan doubler, slim CD-DVD, some heat sinks with multi-colored led fans, USB keyboard... you know, the works! Then use some 6" or so stand-offs to mount a piece of plexiglass as a top cover and not even mess around with a case. Maybe fashion it so you might even fit in a mediator board. That would be cool! :p

A plexiglass case is not a bad idea.... with some lights could be cool...
