Title: CSPPC repair - Stachu rules. :)
Post by: spirantho on November 25, 2013, 11:13:19 PM
Hi everybody,
Just for a bit of positive feedback - and it may be useful to some other people.
Although Stachu100 on Amibay doesn't repair CS-PPCs, he does upgrade them... and of course if the problem is that your PPC doesn't work....

Anyway, long story short - Just over a week ago, I had in my hands a glorified Cyberstorm MkIII - actually a 200MHz PPC but the PPC was dead as a dodo. Today (and 250 Euros poorer, which isn't much all things considered) I now have installed a fully working CyberstormPPC running at just over 360MHz (he replaced the 200MHz part with a 350MHz one). And he installed a new fan too, as the fan was what caused the original's death.

250 Euros isn't much to get a CS-PPC back alive again, especially when it's now a bit of a speed demon (for a Classic Amiga anyway!).
If anyone else has a CS-PPC where the fan stopped or the PPC is dead it may be worth a try asking him - but of course be warned he's not really offering a repair service, just an upgrade - but you may be lucky like I was.

Yeah, I got one where the PPC isn't working, the 68060/50 & scsi & ram works fine.

Instead of sending it overseas and pay for the upgrade I think I will just sell it as it is now, if someone else wants to take the risk, more power to them ;)

Yep he's really good, I'd highly recommend his professionalism.

He's upgraded 2 cards for me, an Apollo 1240 to 1260 @ 80Mhz and a Blizzard 1240 to 1260 @ 80 Mhz, he did a brilliant job with both upgrades.

MmmM decisions, decisions, use mine as is (as a cyberstorm mkiii), send it in and have Stachu upgrade it to 300+ mhz or sell it as is

They are getting rarer than hen's teeth as the people across the pond say :D

I'd get the upgrade; but that's just me.

To protect your card user(s) may want to consider adding copper shim. I got the idea from this thread.
