"But we already have 'MUI-OWB' for OS4"...?
No, what you have is a very ancient version of the browser now called Odyssey (version 1.9), and Odyssey has been updated 11 times since then, and this bounty will for the first time include key features that has been closed previously.
Odyssey is *very* actively developed!
The bounty also includes the optional condition: "If this project is successfully funded, and as long as the resulting ports stay true to the original version of the Odyssey Web Browser in terms of user experience and feature sets, Fabien Coeurjoly plans to share all source code that he will develop himself for future versions of Odyssey Web Browser for free."
And as he said at another site (http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=6924#91668), he may accept code going the other way as well:
"I'll work on my private branch, and opensource new versions. I can integrate contributions, but only if they make sense. I don't want Odyssey to end like YAM, for instance..."
Just to illustrate how much work has gone into Odyssey since the OS4 port, I'm hereby posting the changelogs from all version from all versions post "1.9":
10.03.2013: Odyssey Web Browser 1.20.

Implemented form filling completion feature. It can be enabled in prefs->privacy settings. Note that you calltips.mcc is required, which is included with MorphOS 3+ or 2.x SDK with Scribble.
The "add bookmark" button now has two states, to indicate whether the current URL is already bookmarked or not.
Adding a bookmark from the browser window now always adds it to the end of the bookmarks, and no longer at the end of the currently selected group.
Added Back/Forward/Reload/Stop in view menu.
The password from the URL is now removed if present, when setting the comment of a downloaded file.
Fixed the "Open in new window" function that didn't work anymore in 1.16 due to the new popup policy option.
Fixed attachments not working anymore in GMail.

Enabled large file support in Curl (>4GB files, assuming the underlying filesystem supports it).
Make F11 key (fullscreen toggle) also work in the video overlay area.
Disable blanker when entering video overlay mode.
A quicklink wouldn't be updated properly after its URL was changed in bookmarks.
Make the webview object active after a provisional load event, to be able to tab-cycle between the page form elements without clicking the webview first.
Fixed a crash issue with the imp.free.fr webmail (old version). It was a deadly combination of the 417 status code handling and frame disposal.
Fixed an issue in authentication process happening for instance with system.ch server.
In middle mouse button scrolling mode, releasing button over a link would open the link.
Updated Youtube.js
28.10.2011: Odyssey Web Browser 1.15

Restore video fullpage/overlay mode after switching a webview to fullscreen/window mode.
Hide panels when switching a webview to fullscreen mode and restore state when switching back.
Make sure all media elements instances are disposed when closing awebview (WebKit would sometimes forget some).
When running out of memory, the "death requester" now also gives the choice between retrying the allocation (giving a chance to free some memory from another application) or attempting to quit the application (it might just fail!).

(...continued from above)
05.08.2011: Odyssey Web Browser 1.14 (July 2011)
Changed the name to "Odyssey Web Browser". Like it or hate it, but you canstill call it OWB, anyway. :)
Updated to WebKit r91657 (July 2011).
Updated to Curl 7.21.7.
Use OpenSSL 0.9.8o since 1.0.0d introduced issues with some sites that used to work previously.
Added a popup menu in search string showing Google suggestions for the currently typed word.
Added a cookie policy option in URL settings (possibility to filter on both URL and cookie names with regular expressions).
Added a cookie policy option in global settings.
Allow deleting a cookie domain (and all its cookies) in cookie manager window.
Decrease rootgroup spacing in fullscreen mode.
Added FULLSCREEN REXX command.
Added a fullscreen menu entry, for people lacking F11 key. :)
URLs with video/audio MIME types can now be played directly inside the browser, if the related MIME type action is set to "Internal viewer" (assuming the codec/format is supported).
Don't show scrollbars in video fullpage mode.
Fixed a possible deadlock in MediaPlayer when the object is disposed very early.
Made support for FLV and OGG optional in media settings (disabled by default), since these formats can sometimes confuse some sites like DailyMotion (refusing to play anything if OGG is available ?!), and YouTube (serving FLV in HTML5 mode ?!!).
Honour the "attachment" attribute in Content-Disposition response header and force download when it's set.
Implemented the necessary logic in CURL backend to upload documents in Google Docs and YouTube (it could already work before by spoofing to older browsers versions, but they're not supported anymore).
Upload progress is now notified to the DOM (allows scripts to display progress).
Show an appropriate status/progress and lamp for upload connections in network activity/network lamps.
Fixed month display in FTP view.
Make use of a FTP template page (resource/FTPDirectoryTemplate.html) to enhance the look of the FTP view.
Set a proper mimetype (based on extension) for the URLs with a FTP scheme, instead of displaying them as raw text content.
Fixed YouTube HTML5 fullscreen mode, since it changed again (Youtube_Fullscreen_Fix.js).
Updated youtube.js userscript to work after the recent YouTube changes.
16.07.2011: OWB 1.13
Updated to WebKit r90337 (July 2011).
Updated OpenSSL to 1.0.0d.
Updated SSL certificates.
Added SpellChecker library support. Dictionaries are expected in that kind of path:
LOCALE:dictionaries//base.dic To enable spellchecker, use contextmenu in a text/textarea element and enable "Check Spelling While Typing".
Added arrows to
Added middle mouse button scrolling.
Implemented a kind of fullscreen display, triggered on/off with F11 key.
Attempt to fix a problem with cookies subdomain handling.
Added a media control panel (play/pause/seek/volume) in fullwindow mode (overlay). It can be hidden/shown with middle mouse button.
Fixed an issue with some vimeo links that prevented videos from being played.
Fixed an application deadlock that happened when closing a page while a WebM video was still in seeking phase.
Fixed CSS issues in builtin media player stylesheet.
Updated Youtube.js to enforce container height after recent Youtube changes, so that media controls aren't cropped.
Added "OWB_DISABLE_MOBILE_COMPRESSION" ENV option to disable mobile compression (hello pampers :)).
04.03.2011: OWB 1.12
Updated to WebKit r80266 (March 2011).
Added support for "private browsing". To enable it (on a per-tab basis), enable "private browsing" in Settings menu. Once activated, private browsing will disable any kind of data storage (history/cookies/favicons/sessions/...). Private browsing is inherited for any page created from a page in private browsing mode.
Implemented per-URL settings (for plugins/images/javascript/useragent options). For instance, it could be used so that a given site is accessed under IPad user agent with plugin (Flash) disabled.
Improved UTF8/local charset support for clipboard. When copying, UTF8 and local strings are copied in two different chunks, which allows legacy applications to retrieve local charset string, while OWB (and possibly other applications) make use of the UTF8 chunk.
Added a clipboard monitor to address an issue with DHTML copy. After a rich-text copy,
paste would always reuse that content, even if system clipboard had been modified (externally or not) in the meanwhile. This clipboard monitor allows to reset DHTML clipboard as soon as a regular system clipboard copy has been performed.
Added a "mark all matches" option in text find function.
The bookmark class is not limited anymore to one level of depth. Please note that Intuition menus also have this limitation, though. So if you plan to display subfolders in menu as well, they'll be flattened, unless you use MUI menus instead of Intuition menus.
Tweaked mediaplayer to work again with spiegel.de HTML5 videos.
Fixed mediaplayer autoplay that got broken in some cases.
Fixed an endianess bug in WebKit shadow effect that prevented them from being shown.
Adjusted font backend to show font-weight:semi-bold as bold instead of showing it as normal text (cairo/freetype backend only supports normal/bold levels).
Fixed an issue with per-tab settings being reset by WebKit after a new tab creation.
Fixed some possible crash with select items that were deleted from DOM at selection change.
Fixed youtube.js userscript for recent YouTube changes (in fact, it could already work, with the alternative link method that could be selected in youtube.js preferences).
Changed about: and error pages (contribution from Samir Hawamdeh).
05.11.2010: OWB 1.11
Updated to WebKit r71312 (5th November 2010). Fixes amongst other things:
- lazy loading of thumbnails on youtube and google image. - crash at http://www.reco.se.
Updated to Pixman 0.20.0.
Now compiled with GCC 4.4.4.
Avoid redrawing a bitmap each time a data chunk is received from network. Should speed up pictures loading time, or at least decrease CPU usage substancially.
Added a workaround to avoid using "complex font rendering" code path (triggered by "text-rendering: optimizedlegibility" CSS attribute, or by fonts requiring ligatures). The complex mode is indeed not implemented in cairo/freetype font backend, which caused the sites using it to show invisible text (for instance http://www.mentor.com/).
Replaced the contextmenu for media elements with WebKit's own implementation.
Added SELECTEDTEXT REXX command (text is converted to local charset).
Added "Ignore" to the available mimetype user actions.
Added Safari 5 and Opera 10 user agents.
Updated youtube_fullscreen_fix.js to support embedded youtube as well (remove/readd the script to take the new URL pattern into account)
In youtube.js, remove explicitely the dynamically created video element at unload event, to avoid a potential media instance "leak".
Hopefully fixed some rare random crash related to a bug in reference pointers holding cairo objects.
Enabled again the "death requester" in case of low memory, since it had been disabled somehow. This requester is somewhat useful, because it frees allocated memory and kills OWB in a harmless way.
05.09.2010: OWB 1.10
Updated to WebKit r66666 (2 September 2010).
Implemented HTML5 Drag and Drop (text and images can be dragged/dropped from/to several places).
Reworked login/password form detection rules to be more tolerant.
Added a shortcut/keyword for search engine definition. For instance, if you have 'g' as shortcut for google engine, typing "g foobar" in URL will order a search using google engine.
Enabled again CSS shadow effect, since the webkit/cairo implementation was finally made fast enough.
Fixed some potential crash in WebKit when a file can't be displayed internally and that plugins are disabled or not available.
Search engine string now handles input codepage correctly.
"Find in page" now handles input codepage correctly.
The focus ring wasn't displayed anymore after having cycled (tab key) through the whole page and re-entering it again.
Filter invalid characters for downloaded filenames.
Convert downloaded filenames to local charset.
Added amiga+r (reload) and amiga+s (stop) shortcuts.
@exclude keyword in userscripts was actually adding the sites to the whitelist too. :)
Updated youtube_fullscreen_fix.js since youtube broke it (again).
Removed useless user-agent checks in youtube.js.
Removed dailymotion userscript, since their HTML5 player has been rewritten and now supports fullscreen properly.
Added OWB_CURL_FORBID_ENCODING ENV var to disable gzip support (mostly for debug purpose, but can also help for some broken sites).
This is what OS4 users has been missing out since version 1.9, and as you can see, the development is very active, and the developer has really good communication with the users and carefully listen to any problems/bug reports (and fixes them when possible of course) as well as suggestions for new features!
This is a truly native Amiga browser that handles HTML5/CSS3 better than Internet Explorer, it's very feature complete, it's alive and in active development, new features is introduced all the time, the big modern Websites with "Web 2.0" approaches are fully usable, etc, and everything in an Amiga "Ibrowse" way!
So support this developer, and make your donation now!
:)

You risk that MorphOS looses one of its main advantages by it and are promoting it? :-)

Oh, but MorphOS has *so many* other advantages (and gets more all the time (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=66294)), and I'm quite convinced that both the amount of licenses and the amount of users will continue to grow.
The browsing situation on OS4 is terrible, and Fab has put in a huge effort in Odyssey over the years, and he really deserves a reward for this IMHO, so the way I see it, it's a win-win!
:)

It works with all web pages that work on Safari more or less.
You will love it, it's an amazing piece of work and you can tell it's a real labour of love for Fab.
He really deserves at least as much money as the Freiden brothers got for their half arsed port of Firefox.
Fab is a really nice guy too and has great communication with his users too. A rare thing in this community.

I threw in a little donation as well, even though it's already included in MorphOS and I have no interest in neither OS4 or AROS.
IMHO Fab is definitely worth it! :knuddel:

Now I'd like to see Acube and Aeon making a Big, Fat contribution each, like a digit with three trailing zeroes! That would be nice! :)
After all, Odyssey will finally make "their" OS4 become really usable for web browsing, which can only mean good things for their HW sales...

Interesting, every comment I've made has been edited out of this thread. Therefore, as I already have this for my system, OS4 users can pay for it themselves.

Actually, that response was out of frustration over posts that simply vanished. Sorry, this project has my support. Anything that provides a uniform software package across the NG OS' is good.

The bounty is for Fab to open source Odyssey based on his requirements. After that porters for both Aos4 and Aros need to do the rest. IMHO it's money well deserved for Fab.

As this news item (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=66306) tells, there is a bounty open (http://www.power2people.org/projects/odyssey/) to release the MorphOS web browser Odyssey as open source so that it can be ported to AROS and OS4, including key functionality such as the capability to play HTML5 video.
This is a great opportunity for OS4 and AROS to get the same great, truly Amiga native web browsing experience as MorphOS has had since several years, and to support one of the community's best remaining developers in the process! :)
Some highlighted features:
Based on r155188 WebKit (October 2013) or newer
Javascript, CSS, DOM, SVG, Unicode, SSL, ...

In less than 24h after this news was posted, 42 people has already contributed $1,328 towards the bounty goal, meaning that ~18% of the bounty is already complete! So if you are a true fan of OS4 and/or AROS, make sure to put your name on the Wall of Fame at that bounty page, telling everyone that you helped making it real! :)
Go to http://www.power2people.org/projects/odyssey/ and make your donation Now!
:knuddel:
:bump:
A little update! :)
Current status is: 113 donors(!) contributing with $3073(!) meaning 41%(!) of the $7500 goal!
:pint:
So in very short time the bounty has come very far, which makes me think this bounty can easily be fulfilled! :D
This time of the month, most of us has got another paycheck and probably already paid the monthly bills as well. So if you have some money to spare, please consider kicking in some fresh dollars to the bounty stash! :)
Every little contribution counts!
Bigger contributions counts even more! :p ;)
A browser of Odyssey's caliber will mean *a lot* to the OS4, AROS and ARIX platforms, so if you have any feelings for these and want to strengthen their position by making it possible to port this great web browser to them, then show it to the community (and have your name put on the growing list of contributors!)
Let's at least push it past the 2/3 milestone this time!

Have Hyperion ever donated money to any of these bounties? Opensource or otherwise.
It seems to me they (and certain contractors of theirs) only take from the community.

Exactly the point. Would be nice to see them donate instead of just for a change... This will obviously benefit OS4 tremendously.
Its either this or os4 users have to pay for the firefox port. (Another initiative to profit from an open source project)

[removed two full posts of changelogs, read them above]
And the best just got a lot better!
:D
Changes/improvements in the new Odyssey 1.21:
Core:
Updated to WebKit r155188 (October 2013) : big changes (and thus regressions :)) happened in many parts of WebKit since previous Odyssey release (clipboard, drag'n'drop, network, javascript, inspector, c++0x requirements, ...). They should hopefully all be addressed.
Updated to the new Webinspector layout.
Fixed the layout of the FTP listing, so that the rows don't use all the available vertical space.
Fixed a crash with self-disposing
Localstorage databases (conf/localstorage/#?.localstorage) were not released at exit, which prevented from deleting them manually.
Disabled non functional HTML5 MediaSource (it should help with some non-working YouTube links in HTML5 mode).
Fixed a bug with the "view source code" function that would sometimes just show a blank view.
The mimetype actions would not always be triggered properly in some cases (mainly because of redirections or content-disposition header). The response URL (or content-disposition filename if available) is now used when extension matching is needed.
Added more common mimetype extensions in mimetype default configuration.
Fixed a potential race condition at webview closing.
GUI:
Contextual cursor was sometimes not reset to normal cursor when leaving the webview area.
Added proxy support in network prefs section.
If webinspector is enabled, webinspector button is now also shown in navigation toolbar.
Added "TopSites" feature, showing most recently visited sites thumbnails. This page can be accessed from "topsites://" URL. Feel free to make suggestions about this new option. :)
Ambient deficons are now shown in file input controls (MorphOS 3.4+ required).
Ambient deficons are now shown in download manager lists (MorphOS 3.4+ required).
Select all the text in the search string when searching for text in a page.
Close google and history suggestion popup lists when the text is fully erased.
Added a "start downloads automatically" option, which allows to skip the file requester step.
Added a status icon to indicate if userscripts are running on a given page. The bubble help on this icon also shows which userscripts are actually running.
In bookmarks window, quicklinks favicons and URL are now displayed, to make it easier to create and identify title-less quick links.
Added support for multiple selection with file input elements.
Show FTP URL as window/tab title, instead of a blank title.
In image views, show the image filename instead of "unnamed title".
Implemented HTML5 ColorChooser dialog, using MUI Colorwheel.
Added a filename popup gadget for mimetype viewer.
Added a new page URL option (defaults to "topsites: / /").
Also show column number in javascript error/warning messages.
Media player:
Updated to ffmpeg from 27.11.2013.
Enabled support for VP9 codec.
Audio-only media could sometimes report a null duration : in practice, it fixes a hard crash with Facebook chat audio notifications.
Fixed a 32bits overflow with audio-only media: the visible effect was that the player would stop updating time controls at 2:32.
Added more sanity checks in ffmpeg support.
Network:
Reimplemented HTTP authentication to be more compliant. It should also fix a crash that happened when cancelling the authentication requester in some cases.
Added support for multipart contents.
Fixed potential crashes with data: URI handling.
Fixed an illegal memory access that would sometimes happen at exit, when FTP was used.
Spellchecker:
Misspelled words are now underlined in red instead of black.
Scripts:
Updated YouTube_Fullscreen_Fix.js: fullscreen mode should work again. It also replaces all youtube links in right column so that the page is reloaded when clicking them, allowing the script to be executed again.
This is a *real* browser, and it's a *real, native Amiga application*, the result of real, actual development! If you want to see this program opened up as open source, thus making it possible to port it to OS4 and AROS (and ARIX), please contribute to the bounty that will make this happen!
After only a month since the bounty was opened, it has already reached (almost) half way. If you have already donated, please consider chipping in a few more bucks. Because half way still means there is another half to overcome! And it's for a good cause; this application is what will make OS4 and AROS usable for real in a modern Internet context, probably there isn't any more essential must-have application than this one!
Personally, I *already have* Odyssey (and I don't have OS4), but still I have donated *a lot more* than most OS4 users (and I haven't actually donated particularly much money, only like $50 or so, which is peanuts for something like this). So to those of you who like OS4 (or AROS), don't let this opportunity slip you away! Pick up your wallets, and head over to:

Isn't the lack of interest of donation and interest by community and desire to see this happen...is a great indication that the community itself does not care to see a good browser ported to the Amiga community? That they would rather use an ancient Ibrowser or AWeb from classical times and that they do not support AmigaOS 4.1 at all?
I mean...even if it is not true the lack of enthusiasm and the lack of donation from the Amiga community part itself...indicate so?
I am thinking here....the jack pot for success here is 7,500 dollars...that is the main goal, right? Well...assume there are very few people left in the Amiga community and majority have either died or moved on. Assume in the entire Amiga community in general there are just 1000 left...that is it...1000 left which combines the interest of the Amiga classic and new modern hardware in total..both for Amigaworld.net and Amiga.org combined there are 1000 people left in the community. If every single person donate 10 dollars you will get 10,000 donation that is more than the 7,500 and the goal would be met and the port will happen. But in total there are 120 people who donated...just 120...that shows very lack interest in this entire project.
Even if all the 1000 people who are left in this community donate 5 dollars you would still meet the goal requirement and the project will happen.
Am I missing something here? And by the way...I did donate myself so do not come at me in this angel. Maybe people do not believe AmigaOS 4.1 is a real AmigaOS and the hardware a real Amiga hardware and maybe people do not believe AmigaOS 4.1 is worthy of their time and money and would rather see this project in AmigaOS 3.9 and perhaps would rather see AmigaOS 4.1 be destroyed and die out with it's modern hardware and be still stuck in ancient old hardware that is over expense with lack of ability to do things in modern time...maybe. I am not so sure the reason behind it.

I am not so sure the reason behind it.
First of all... if you include the 68k community you have a lot more than 1000 people, I think there are a lot more than all "NG" supporters combined, of course many using emulation instead of hardware. And there are certainly people that do not like AmigaOS or Hyperion. But the majority is simply not interested in AmigaOS running on PPC.
So simple summarize... OWB is not running on 68k and will propably not run in future. We tried to motivate the AROS devs to port OWB (the version of Fab) to port it to AROS 68k and Jason tried but did not succeed. Most of the AROS NG devs are not interested in 68k. So at least for now not interesting for 68k fans. MorphOS user already have it. Some donate because they use both systems but that is certainly a minority. So it is realistic only interesting for AmigaOS and AROS user. And for that it is a huge bounty. Look at Magellan bounty. It was virtually interesting for all platforms and was a lot lower than this bounty and did not reach the amount after a long time (I think it was more than 6 months). And it makes no sense to moan that 68k fans do not donate to a AmigaOS bounty if you cannot offer them something for their money. The amount was too high in my view (regardless if you think it is worth the money or not). If Fab wants the money shortly he can decide it is enough donation (what happened with the Magellan bounty) or has to wait till the money is there (even if it needs for example one year). Or he does not care about money and if and when the bounty sum is collected. I cannot judge that.
I have one theory... people (devs) have learned that AmigaOS fans spend virtually every sum for their hobby so if AmigaOS is involved the sum is automatically going up. It is a kind of market (on a low level of course).

You can't just lay the blame at OS4 users feet, once the source is opened up this browser can be ported to 68k Amiga OS and AROS as well as OS4 so if anything of shows the lack of interest from all sections of the Amiga community. But people are skint these days and it's close to Christmas so people's money is being spent on presents for others not on bounties for our own benefit.

I am sure you are aware that even if the community is composed of 1000 people only and every single person just donated five dollars this bounty would have being closed already and the port would have taken effect. You understand my point then..is that due to the fact only 120 people donated show a huge lack of interest from the entire community. Five dollars is not too much from everyone even if it is Christmas time. Then the real question...why the lack of interest?
Is it that people complain they want this and that...but do not want to put any input on it? Or just like ordering free pizza to be delivered to your home without you paying for it..or contributing? Or the thought of donating makes the person shiver from the inside out...or everyone is hoping the other would donate and somehow it will be available for him without him putting any effort? Am I getting warm?

maybe most of the people having a nextgen Amiga just use it for fun and not as a primary system (as I do and writing these lines at the moment) so ultimately, they dont care because their browser (and everything else) needs are filled by their primary system ?

That WOULD tend to describe virtually all legacy users and a lot of NG users. Maybe that why those of us using MorphOS are confused. We thought computers were supposed to have real utility.

Firstly, I don't really think it's going slow at all. We all know that this is a higher set bounty than this tiny community are used to. But in just one month(!), 129 people has collected $4,000 (just $19 short), or 53% of the entire bounty sum. I am actually quite impressed by this! I thought it would go much slower!
But I see what you mean. There aren't many OS4 users contributing, and most of those who do, only contribute with some $10-$20, some even single digit donations. I think this could be because of several reasons.
First, the OS4 community is perhaps a lot smaller today than we thought? OS4 seems mostly to be a discussion club over at AW.net, and we are many who has been completely surprised by the number of very vocal OS4 supporters who (as it later turned out) never even had an OS4 rig, but still talks about its superiority and yada yada everywhere.
Maybe that's not so strange either, come to think of it. OS4 and its HW has always had rather poor availability, the Teron boards were notoriously flawed (many stayed away from them) and über expensive (some who wanted one could not afford or would think it's worth it). Hence that one was kind of unavailable to many. And those systems are old/dying now, many who owned then has probably left the scene a long time ago. There was demand for second hand Pegasos 2's for a while from OS4 users, but the availability of those on the second hand market has also been relatively poor. The Sam 440 was terribly underpowered (Efika class CPU, albeit faster) and still not cheap, the Sam 460 reached almost the Pegasos 2 in performance (which wasn't particularly good at the time, and even less so today) but was very expensive for its performance level, and it had (and still have, I believe?) driver issues. So I suppose some people never considered those to be alternatives either. And it would be a difficult to even imagine a system that has been more out of peoples reach than the X1000. The poor HW situation that has always plagued OS4 must of course have had some effect on the size of the user base.
Another thing that may have caused people to simply leave, is the fact that development has been virtually non-existent for years. The few updates coming are of minor kind, like bugfixes. Many features that was promised many, many years ago has still not been developed. I think that at some point, people get tired of waiting, and leave. Ironically, a really good Web Browser like Odyssey, is a killer feature that would improve their experience a lot.
Another thing could be that OS4 people are exceptionally tight-fisted and stingy, and don't want to put their money where their mouths are. But OTOH, they filled a much larger bounty than this for the friedens to make a closed source port of the open source browser "Firefox" (with a terrible result, but that's a different story), so this can't be it.
Maybe it's simply down to that this is a bounty assigned to Fab (from the "not teh reeale!1!!" community) and not to "the holy Friedens"? Irrational, yes very! Possible, yes indeed. There also alsmost seems like some people don't want this bounty to succeed, like ddni in post #14 here (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=66450), totally ignoring the fact that the bounty only had been open for a few weeks and the growth is steady. I mean, since that post a few days ago only, we are 6% and several hundreds of $ closer to the goal. "Stalled"? "No signs of growth"? Well, for some, that seems more like wishful thinking than the reality.
;)

Now we can reset our minds:
The price of releasing the Odyssey sources to the OS4 community has never been this cheap!
For only $3500 you could get the browser of your dreams, the #1 killer application your platform needs!
Don't make this opportunity for OS4 (and AROS and ARIX) slip away!

them reason I think are mostly WRONG, the main reason I only donated a small amount is because this is simply open source the code, there are no guarantees it will be easy to port specially if it uses closed sourced Morphos libs or what ever and we need to support the devs who are going to have to port it over and maintain it.
Plus another reason why many OS4 users dont post much any more is there sick of some of crap that goes on in the drama of amiga world web sites and plus maybe they are just simply enjoying there machine and not on web forums as much. No way....is that your reason? I tell you what..I take the reasons of takemehomegrandma more into grain salt than yours!!! The other reasons where you disapproved and spoke against on the behalf of the rest of the community to me sound more correct, valid, sane, logical, and maturer than your reason. If your reason simply put that the drama in this community is the big reason why community no longer support browser so as to not want to read the drama...simply put...is weak at best! The solution to that problem is DO NOT VISIT the site! Problem solved! Same if you listen to a radio show and you find the talk show be political incorrect, sexist, racist, fascist you name it...the solution to that problem..the nob of that radio. Simply put...change the radio station or turn it off...your problem is solved! However, why stop a good browser that the Amiga needs so badly that could be used for youtube, flash site intensive, do your banking work, etc....just because of the drama that comes in amiga.org or amigaworld.net?
That to me is sooooo illogical that I will go with the previous reason why people do not donate better than your reason.

Well firstly you can not deny that there is very little present of Os4 users on Amiga.org anymore and so most users wont see this thread and rallying cry that takemehomegrandma is (slightly over) doing for this project. Secondly a thread on Amigan which I think is why the whole project got going in the first place a few seem to question how the bounty was set up, there was some unanswered questions and questing of the amount, after reading that thread I was nearly put off by donating. But again I thought no matter what Fab for his work in 1.19 release deservers some respect and a donation for his efforts so I hope the bounty does reach the target and he gets his reward, I really hope all this money however isn't locked up in the bounty for years to come like some others.
PS: where both speculating as to why not more people have donated there are even more likly reasons not even brought up, not everyone has or trusts pay pal accounts, people dont like putting money into bounties, people might think its too much, people might not like the terms, people might be happy with what they got, people might not simple able to afford to give anything.....the list could go on, but as always it easier for a morpthos fan to say it because OS4 is dyeing off. which I just think is way too closed minded.

in the bounty text it states:

Odyssey uses MUI4, but that has been circumvented before by OS4 developers, and AROS as well for that matter (AFAIK, AROS has a more recent version of Odyssey than OS4 for some reason). And that is probably the thing, a real *developer* will most certainly be needed (as it won't be as simple as build it from some already existing make file on OS4, but it *has been* ported before, don't forget that), but surely that's no problem, right? Fab has a good and verifiable track record of helping both OS4 and AROS developers in their efforts of porting Odyssey to these respective platforms, and this was before anyone paid him a dime for anything. If the OS4 community can't put forward a developer with skills enough for making (and maintaining) a port, then the OS4 as a platform is kind of dead anyway. But I don't think that's the case. Think positive. The first step is getting access to the sources, and like with the Magellan bounty, only good things can happen after that! :)
Quote
Secondly a thread on Amigan which I think is why the whole project got going in the first place a few seem to question how the bounty was set up, there was some unanswered questions
Not correct, all questions has been answered, several times even (on many forums), and everything is crystal clear. Everybody knows perfectly what to expect, what is to be included, and what is not. And the things that aren't included shouldn't be a problem whatsoever for any developer skilled enough to port and maintain Odyssey. It's all open and freely available, and as I said earlier, Fab has answered questions before.
But then there is a certain level of FUD produced by some, which is kind of surprising if you ask me. But perhaps not really after all, considering the people who is spreading it. You see, there seems to be some animosity coming from some against this project, and considering the sources (the people behind it) and their historical agendas, I can only draw the conclusion that this project is "bad" because it competes with the "Timberwolf" from the Friedens (which is "good"). I think that's all, really.
I won't bother telling you why this attitude is sad, and why it will ultimately just bite themselves in their ar$es.
Quote
and questing of the amount
There is absolutely *nothing* to be said about the amount. NOTHING! This is a *genuine* Amiga development, a real native application of the more heavy kind that we simply don't even see in the Amiga world today, and it's *not* to be confused with some half-arsed Linux port of some existing application!
Odyssey is the result of several years of real developments, and if you would put a true market price on that amount of work for a developer in the developed world, this bounty amount is a *blasphemy*! Also, remember that the Friedens got a lot more for a lot less, and what they did for their money was to close the sources of an *open source* project, and the level of their product is nothing but *shameful*! So don't talk about "questioning of the amount" here, please...
Quote
But again I thought no matter what Fab for his work in 1.19 release deservers some respect and a donation for his efforts so I hope the bounty does reach the target and he gets his reward, I really hope all this money however isn't locked up in the bounty for years to come like some others.
Indeed! :) (The current version of Odyssey is 1.21 though, and the version OS4 has is "1.09", twelve(!) versions behind, and it doesn't have the multimedia (etc) stuff!)

Hey, anyone who doesn't live in a clay hut with straw roof, providing for a family of 15 children by herding sheep on a stony rock hillside, can afford to "risk" $20! There is no excuse, really! Given Fab's track record in the history, when he received *no money from anyone* for his work and *still* helped OS4/AROS developers to port *his* work to their platforms, *I* would like to rephrase that to something like:
"Certainly as long as the resulting ports stay true to the original version of the Odyssey Web Browser in terms of user experience and feature sets, but if the sources are used to create some kind of *fork bastard* like the OS4 version of SFS, then I might pull the plug on future source releases".
But *please note* that this entire statement (*especially* the last part after that comma sign) is *my* words, and *not* Fab's!
Come to think of it, I don't think his words needs any "re-intrepretations" at all!
It's all spelled out clearly in the bounty conditions (which is the *only* thing one should consider, and *not* whatever stuff in various forums (including this post)), under the "Optional" part: "If this project is successfully funded, and as long as the resulting ports stay true to the original version of the Odyssey Web Browser in terms of user experience and feature sets, Fabien Coeurjoly plans to share all source code that he will develop himself for future versions of Odyssey Web Browser for free." I think those are very fair conditions!

Only 33% to go now!
For only $2553 the community will get access to the sources of the best Amiga browser!
It's close now. Can this happen before 2013 ends?

Gee I guess they just don't see the good in a modern browser for their platform they can't rob people for.
I will donate soon myself.
From what I read on amigans.net Hyperion do not support this bounty, so don't expect a donation, SSolie said something along the lines of "do not donate to people who don't care about AmigaOS" to paraphrase.

How is this not supporting AmigaOS? They would finally have a completely modern browser. Anyone know the state of that firefox port?
Maybe someone in that camp would just rather sell that to amiga os4 users than have a free alternative available? just guessing...

And TimberWolf will never be fully functional, Firefox is a complex moving target.
Why not just support a native application?

Yes, it is. And I love it! What pervert doesn't wholly embrace his perversion?
And most of my hardware is low cost (except for the over priced legacy stuff - yet another perversion, paying more for outdated hardware than new and more useful stuff).

There's nothing quite like getting your freak on with Amigas.
Odyssey would run on an 060 with 256MB RAM, it would just be a tad slow. Disable JavaScript and use the WarpDT datatypes for image decoding and it could be usable.

Define tad slow. Knowing that we are supporting a browser for the Amiga that finally allows us to view all flash pages 100% like Windows 7 and Windows 8, we are supporting or donating to a browser that allows us to watch videos, such as youtube, etc on the browser itself like we do with Windows and Linux and so on.....we are supporting a browser that allows us to play flash/html5/and java script games and apps.
Having achieved all that...what are the chance rate that speed is a factor when it comes to legacy hardware? :P You know as well, when you say tad slow...that is very much deceiving...we can say that if we DID (which is insane) but import it to 68k...it is good enough to browse only HTML5/CSS page...but flash, javascript and watching videos on a classical Amiga is not feasible even if we manage to grind the 060 to run at 200 Mhz (which is impossible to do).
So...I believe...the best we can do..is run it on AmigaOS 4.1 on a powerful PPC...that is where the benefit of donation goes..not on a 060 hardware running at 50 Mhz or 100 mhz CPU....

Well..once its open, you're all free to try it. Why not? If some nimrod thinks its worth his trouble to surf the web with a C64, at least the Amiga has enough ass to do so in a worthwhile fashion.

Running f.e. on X86 "68k" is more than competitive. And there is new FPGA based hardware like FPGA Arcade and at least two other projects at the horizon. PPC is for me more strange, rare and expensive and not much software. 68k at least has much more software. And not fogetting much more users and better distribution opportunities.

Except for the fact that you seem to forget we can already run 68K software. And that not all our hardware is expensive. I spend less of a Mac than an FPGA system would cost and it runs faster.
AND, there isn't that much 68K software I want to run. Remember, we are talking about a back port to 68K, not vice versa.

No, that would be Odyssey running on MorphOS with a 3GHz G5 or on AROS with a 4GHz i7.
Once the code is fully open anyone can choose to port it to whatever Amiga flavour they like, real hardware or emulation, it doesn't matter.

No one should ever be sorry for supporting an Amiga coder, whatever his platform of choice. The more Fab codes, the more everybody benefits, including os4.
Anyway, two browsers are better than one! Odyssey for the more Amiga-like experience, and TW for compatibility with the various plug-ins.

Happy coding ^^
Donations: $6803
Raised 91% of $7500 goal.
As for regretting donating, even if we get 2 fully functioning browser on the different Amiga OS platforms, supporting developers can only be a good thing. For the most part we seem to take their work for granted, and expect it to cost nothing. So my 100 dollars is merely a token sum considering the amount of joy using Amiga (and C64) has given me since the late 80s.
Only 697 to go, and at current pace we might actually break the goal by the end of this week? (crossing fingers)

I hope that the OS developer team will focus harder on the core issues with OS4, accelerating that aspect. With Fabs funding is place, I think Ssolie shouldnt feel pushed to focus on Timberwolf. Kas1e and Fab seems to have that covered for the time being.
Just my 2 cents (well, 100 dollars).

+1 to that.
So is Helgis or whoever is King Red Troll these days going to push for Timberwolf to be opensourced with the same gusto that Grandma has campaigned for this?
Probably not, but it would be nice and it would be a sign of good faith from the OS4 community.
Well, technically Firefox IS open source (which is why Timberwolf does not carry that name).

SSolie should release the source to TW then anyone who wants to work on it can.

It's a morality versus legality issue really.

There is always a dead hose to beat, somewhere.

So you don't think there is a moral obligation for people who modify opensource code to release their changes?
Forget whether it's legal, that is not in doubt.

Unless the original developers specifically require you to do so by choosing an adequate license, not at all.

Morals are subjective.

True, which is why we can believe in moral behavior, but enforce only legal issues. Anyone that believes morality can be forcibly applied is either a religious zealot or a nut job. Again we appear to be victimized by another "lowest minimum standards" situation. Is it legal...yes. Is it right...?
