I grabbed an Amiga 600HD off ebay the other day as it looked a decent price and it rounds off my compact(?) amiga collection! My plan for it is to be downstairs in the living room (if its allowed to be) and just to use it for gaming. Unlike the 1200 which has lots of ram and is running a nice customized copy of workbench upstairs in the spare room. Also its nice and small so can take it around to other peoples houses etc. Problem is I want to use WHDLoad but obviously it's only got 1MB of RAM. Any suggestions of decent memory expansions for it? Don't want to spend a fortune and 4-8mb would be fine. Just want the memory for whdload so any more would be over kill. Ebay searches for amiga 600 ram/memory are drawing a blank!

I would have suggested kipper2k http://kipper2k.com/amigaforsale/ but it looks like he's still developing memory for the 600. I would email him just the same in case his website is not up to date. I have the A604 with the ACA620EC which gives plenty of memory but probably a little more than what you want to spend I purchased both from versalia http://www.vesalia.de/ amiga kit also sold these the A604 has been replaced with the A604n the ACA620EC http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1102
is also an option. I would have preferred the ACA630 but is currently unavailable.
Don't quote me but I seem to remember that a 68020 is recommended as a minimum for WHDLoad. Kipper2k also has a very cool CF adapter for both interior and exterior. Anyway I hope this helps out a little bit.

The unexpanded A600 is a slow as molasses, so I do not recommend it for anything, but playing floppy/hd games. One time I was so frustrated I sold the sucker. Then I got it again, could not resist, the price was good.
Anyway, The best thing to do is to get some kind of accelerator for it. At the moment, you can get the ACA620 from Amigakit.
It's probably not the best, but it does the job.

If you can get your hands on a cheap 4MB SRAM card that helps a lot and a A604 would be enough for plenty of WHDLoad but price of SRAM can vary much and is kinda hard to get hold of.

The ACA620 is the best way to go for the money. It transforms the A600 into a very snappy machine indeed, and also gives you plenty of memory for WHDLoad. You'll also need an A604 chip ram expansion though or you'll find yourself too short on chipram.

Thanks guys. Let the scouring of the internet begin!

I'm quoting you my friend, and you are wrong. :) WHDLoad will run on even 680000.
@ OP
A600 is so cool, def get a pcmcia ram card it will speed up the machine. You may want to wait for the "Vampire " a600 fpga accel before buying the a620.

Yepp and 68010 for quit key if I remember right?
A SRAM card and removal of the Preload option got me running plenty of multifloppy games on my A600 :)

When I had a 600 I upgraded with a 030 and some extra bits. But in the end I also got a HxC floppy emulator and that's probably one of the best upgrades I did.
