System 3’s platformer Putty Squad headlines the news section in this month’s Retro Gamer magazine.
As well as confirming that the retro revamp – first announced way back in 2010 – is still alive and bouncing, it also has been revealed that the newly announced collector’s edition will contain something very special – the Amiga version on disk.

I do not want the PS 3l, PS 4, xbox 360 or Wii U version.....I want only the Amiga version.....I only want to play it on the Amiga....so where can I buy the Amiga version in the 3.5" floppy disk?

So we are not getting full version again?? :(
I WANT TO BUY NEW AMIGA GAMES IN 2013 :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:......I want to get them in boxes, and manuals and floppy disks and have versions work on A500 and other versions work only A1200...I want that again....

I remember playing a demo of this game, kinda neat that they're actually putting it on old fashioned floppy media as well.

hi codetapper (really wonderful website, btw), as unfortunate as it is, you've got to give the guy a break. Like you mentioned on your site, he probably has no idea about the current state of the Amiga market and is aiming the game for ex-Amiga users anyway. You know, the type of people that still have their a1200 in the attic but havent kept up since '96 or something. If you look at it that way, his story does make sense. Ofcourse what he did wrong was promising the game in an interview while he hadnt done the requested research about disk mastering. If you politely write in and inform him about the average Amiga user these days, he may just include it on mini-cd or download code with the remake, or better, just provide a download link. Also I have no problem paying online for a download link.
I may be totally wrong since I dont know anything about this guy really, but I have the feeling you need to give him a chance if you want to see the game released. We have never been so close.

I think in this case you have to give benefit of the doubt to Retro Gamer. They were duped big time. One of the editors says that they're disappointed by Mark telling a completely different story to Eurogamer (http://retrogamer.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=47180) on their own forum.
Imagine if it was a legitimate mistake (which it's not but bear with me). You've just had a free 2 page spread in Retro Gamer, and suddenly realise they've written saying the Amiga version is coming out when it was just an idea. Wouldn't you be on the phone to Retro Gamer magazine as soon as possible and clear the story up? Get something ready for the next issue, post on the forums etc? And the first thing would be to mention it on the System 3 website of course. That would be the logical thing to do. And did any of that happen? Of course not.
What does that slimeball Mark Cale do instead? He goes behind their back to a completely different publisher, and gets more publicity to effectively blame Retro Gamer for publishing the article.
One of the guys on EAB is friends with someone at Retro Gamer and posted this information about it (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=919934#post919934):
"Okay, I've been in touch, and the editor of Retro Gamer Magazine has whole heartily agreed that Mark Cale is an obsessive liar for taking advantage of the Amiga community like this scamming pre-orders on a Fault promises of releasing a lost piece of software is is an complete and utter lie and would not of ran this news story known before hand."
Overall, go easy on Retro Gamer. Mark Cale is the jerk-off here, not Retro Gamer magazine.

I would never blame Retro Gamer, coz I love that magazine. I just hope there is a possibility we are misjudging this guy and he is actually still looking for ways to release this game. But Im starting to believ its not going to happen..

Isn't putty squad on the SNES anyway?
I don't know why they bother to do this, people who care about an old Amiga game that was never released being ported to next gen consoles are the only ones that this would make a difference to. By constantly dangling this sh1t covered carrot dipped in Cyanide does nothing more than sour those potential customers.
I think the best thing Mark Cale can do is STFU and never EVER talk about the Amiga again.
The stupid premise that by releasing the Amiga version (which they could have put on CD for peanuts decades ago btw) we will not buy the new version is completely wrong. Amiga users still left today are the most supportive of all really and would buy it on some new format as gratitude. As it is they have lost sales even to people who never had an Amiga because it makes him look like a liar and a bit of a prize cockerel in general really IMO.

In our excitement for the launch of a re-imagined Putty Squad, we set about doing something that we believed would reward the dedicated fans around the world. In an interview with Retro Gamer magazine, we announced that every pre-order would receive the original Putty Squad intended for release on the Amiga, on an Amiga disk, in the originally intended box. This would’ve been a brilliant achievement, and we were so passionate about making it happen. Sadly, we’re not able to deliver on this ambition.
Three issues meant we have had to retract this offer. Much like the last hurrah of the Amiga software market, it isn’t economically possible to create Amiga disks anymore. The prices were far too high and supply was very short. We also had issues creating a master disk to go to manufacture so that even if this disk price and shortage was not an issue our systems cannot now master an Amiga game. And finally retail were not very keen on supporting an Amiga disk as a promotion. They they had no way of checking if a disk was returned as faulty and may have been forced to refund the promotion.
Game Stores and System 3 are looking at offering another pre order offer and this will be announced by the end of the week. For announcing this Amiga pre-order idea through Retro Gamer and not being able to carry through on this promise, I and everyone here at System 3 is deeply sorry.

Mark has retracted his statement and posted two statements on facebook one to Retro gamer and the other to Amiga community. Looks like we will have an Amiga version released.

Dear friends and fans of Putty Squad Amiga.
In a recent interview with Retro Gamer, Mark Cale, the CEO of System 3 revealed our plans to deliver a pre-order bonus for fans of Putty Squad; the original in the form of the unreleased Amiga version on an Amiga disk. We were excited about the possibility of finally releasing the game for a system we loved dearly.
However, sometimes, even the best plans have to change, even if you don’t want them to. Due to a number of factors, we discovered we wouldn’t be able to deliver the original Amiga version, and for this, we’re truly sorry.
We could have overcome the lack of retail support for the Amiga version as part of a collector’s edition, as well as the price of the disks. The biggest stumbling block was the mastering process itself.
When the original idea of releasing the Amiga version on disk was put forward, we believed it would be a relatively simple matter of running the original mastering process with the old Amiga 1200 and hard disk. When it came to it however, whilst we have all the original Amiga 68000 source code and all the mastering files, we did not have the crucial component to save to disk nor the current expertise to substitute this process to create more modern equivalent file formats.
The good news, though, is that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We knew Putty had an incredible fan base, but even we were surprised by the passion of the community. What surprised us more, were the offers of help and assistance. Where we weren’t able to master and compile the game, we had a stream of offers to help us do so, and we’re humbled by this response.
Because of your incredible passion and these offers of assistance, we’re now directly engaged with community members to try to finally get Putty Squad out on the Amiga. While we’re being cautious to not promise when or what form it will take, we’ll do our very best to make it happen.
We’re meeting with various community members over the coming days, and we’ll update you by December 6th to let you know how things have progressed. Thank you again for your patience and your understanding, and keep your fingers crossed!

I apologised in my previous statement earlier this month for my comments in interview with Retro Gamer magazine where I announced that in a pre-order campaign on current formats we would offer the original Putty Squad intended for release on the Amiga.
We have explained why we cannot deliver on what we all thought would have been a great idea. I would like to also apologise to Darren and all his team at Retro Gamer. I have know Darren for many years. We have a very good relationship and have worked together on many articles and interviews in the past regarding System 3 games and System 3's views about games. I certainly would never intentionally embarrass or discredit him or his team. They do a fantastic job in supporting the Retro gaming community.
I hope that John will have further news about the Amiga version by December the 6th.

Ive just read the interview, and I'm really quite surprised to see someone with such obvious knowledge of (Amiga) programming taking the time to get this game working. Im quite sure you have enough projects on your mind but still you sacrificed several days just to get this done for us, without any profit. Thanks again, Galahad-Fairlight.

Thats nice of you to say so, but my history (the Fairlight moniker should be a clue!!) means I was perfectly suited to the job of doing it, but it was nice to have the freedom to not have to release it 2 hours after it was uploaded to me ;)
This is the kind of stuff I thrive on, did it for Gremlin Interactive for another game in similar circumstances.
Just glad I could be the guy to do it and make sure it got released.
