Title: MakeCD and mp3 CD's
Post by: Ryu on February 06, 2004, 10:06:14 PM
I hope someone can help me out here...

I cant seem to burn CD's with MakeCD that my Cd mp3 player can read... I burn in ISO 9660 level2 mode when im doing mp3 CD's but my player can only ever read a couple of mp3's... Ive updated MakeCD to use the new makecdfs.module but still no luck...

The only way I can burn mp3 CD's is to use BurnIT, but the problem with that is my amiga cant read CD's that BurnIT makes, and im not a huge fan of BurnIT either...

so anyone got any advice, hints, tips, whatever? please :-)

My DVD's read the mp3 cd's makecd produces just fine...I don't know if they use the same method as your mp3 player, though.

I just add them like regular files in the default amiga ISO format and it works fine.

Sincerely,

If you're tallkibng about a dvd player with mp3 support or car stereo with mp3, you need to rename the files with short names, some (if not all) these devices need short name in order to recognize the files. Do an experiment, try to rename them with short strings, numbers if possible and try.. you can use srename from aminet to mass rename files.

cheers

@Ryu

Are you using the right settings?
Add a track & in the Track Options set the following.

Source = Image file
Target = Direct to CD writer
Advanced Options = Audio (normal)

Now select the mp3s you want to burn. After you've selected them, you can test them by clicking on 'Play audio'. If they all play in the
Write window, then you're set to burn.

Most such MP3 CD/DVD players don't read rockridge extensions. But they use the filename (and its suffix) to identify the file. So, if you have MP3s with short name (<= 30 characters), the suffix will be valid, and the CD player will correctly identify it as MP3. My solution looked like this:

Shell-Script ISO30:
.key TO/A,FILES/M
.bra {
.ket }
Echo >T:ISO30 "FailAt 21"
List ALL DIRS {FILES} LFORMAT "MakeDir *"{TO}%p%n*"" >>T:ISO30
List ALL FILES {FILES} LFORMAT "Copy *"%p%n*" *"{TO}%p%.26m.%e*" CLONE" >>T:ISO30
Execute T:ISO30
Delete >NIL: T:ISO30

This will copy the given files to a new directory, automatically truncating the filenames to max. 30 chars to conform with Level 2. I've also written a program to remove blanks etc from the filename, called PackFilename, it is available on request.

You guys may be right about the 30 char limit...I've never thought of that as all my mp3's are below that, as I always rename them myself.

I get sick from looking at Ar-Tist   _-_-_-_ Title - track - number - album - dirty_ripper _-_ .mp3

And spaces in filenames are wrong, anyway.

:)

no, in those way, MakeCD will convert the MP3 to a CDDA.

I've never create an MP3 CD but i think that the problem, is to chose a "not AmigaISO". (try with ISO9660 level1-8+3 char), don't use CDRW and, obviously close (FIX) the CD as well :-)

Ciao

why is it people dont read what I write most of the time...

Its not a problem with the filenames at all, and I dont wish to burn a CDDA CD. Oh and my CD mp3 player aswell as my DVD player can read mp3's fine...

However I think I have fixed it myself, it tried burning in ISO 9660 level 1 last night and it produced a CD that both my amiga and CD player could read, Ive yet to try again to confirm but hopefully it will work.

Thanks for any help already given even if it wasnt helpfull :-)
