Hi,
I've read the Xsurf2 LAN card has an IDE-port on it.
Is it any usefull to connect a CDROM to it?
Or is it better to buy a idefixcard when i want to connect a cdrom?
-
IIRC, it's not possible to boot from ant device connected to the IDE-controller on the X-surf cards. The controller needs a driver which have to be loaded through the OS.
If you don't need to be able to boot from the CD-ROM drive, then the card should be good enough.

No need to boot from cd.
Haven't thought about that one anyway :)
Should it be possible to boot from a cd when I;ve got an ATAPI cdrom connected to the A4000's internal IDE port? (kick 3.1)

The X-Surf IDE port requires IDE-Fix software to work, and is a very basic IDE.
No you cannot boot from a CD hooked to an A4000 internal IDE.

Thnx, everything is clear now.
Regarding the boot, couldn't really remember it anymore

Hi,
i have a XSurf and I can tell you that you do not need IDE-Fix software to use it, the Xsurf has its own driver and you CAN boot from the Xsurf if you have an Algor with flashrom and put the driver in the flashrom (I have it this way and IDE devices connected to the Xsurf show on early startup on cold boot). It's not recommended to use CDroms/burners on it though.

Actually, I think regular CD drives are okay. It's just burners that can't cope.

You are probably confusing the X-Surf I with the X-Surf II. The X-Surf II IDE will not work unless you purchase IDE-Fix software. This is a fact.

Algor? 14hours left! (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2784455252&category=4598)
Amiga.org members, purchase that card and mention this post, and I will give you free shipping to the continental US! :-D

hehe.. yes, I said Xsurf, not Xsurf II.. the thread seems to talk about the nd version though.. sorry
regarding cdroms, yes.. you can use cdroms, it's the cd burners that have problems.
cheers
