I'm looking for a good email client for AmigaOS. Anyone have any good recommendations and maybe why they recommend their recommendation?

Before anyone stops to praise SimpleMail: YAM

I love YAM, but I have two problems with it... when you first load it up, the most recent emails arent visible in the listview.. so you have to scroll upwards to the top every time. I like keyboard shortcuts here and there, so I hold down shift and cursorup for a few seconds, but it takes too long. I would prefer YAM make the most recent email entry visible after its finished downloading.
Second problem is that I cant get it to delete my spam emails without deleting half my incoming folder. My ISP marks spam by putting "[SPAM]" in the start of subject lines, but I so far I have been unsucessful in getting YAM filters to only delete the spam. I dont know if its my inability to configure it properly or what... but when I was watching the ANT OS4 demo video clip (and DVD) some guy mentioned he had the same problem, so maybe its not just me?
YAM is nice otherwise though. I like it.

I used to think that way, but I've been taken over by the dark side. Thats right; I love SimpleMail. YAM is good, but SM is better ;-)

I have to agree and say Simplemail as well. Its passed Yam up and is much more functional now. The Spam filters are just awsome and they work plain and simple. It has all the functions of Outlook Express if you have ever used that. You can sort mail with SIMPLE filter settings. As far as choices it just cant be beat at present.

My only advice on this subject is to avoid AmigaMail (the free mail client that you get with 3.9) AVOID AVOID AVOID!
YAM is a very nice client and I've heard nothing but good things about simplemail, both are open source and both continue to be updated. I'd suggest downloading both and giving them both a try and see which one suits you best.

I'm going to have to go for SimpleMail for this topic. I too was a YAM devotee, but as others have already mentioned, I think SimpleMail is starting to surpass YAM.
The new beta .23 version finally gives SimpleMail appicon support as well as also seeing a native MorphOS port. The Spam filter works great, the builtin HTML viewer works great (far better in my opinion than YAM's clumsy rexx scripts that feed the message into a webbrowser). Additionally SimpleMail is also far more stable and hasn't yet crashed on my setup like YAM was prone to do.
YAM still has a few advantages though having a better ARexx interface, but I'm sure SimpleMail is bound to catch up shortly. My only other gripe with SimpleMail at this moment is its' lack of CManager support...
Either way though, try out SimpleMail and YAM. They're both great mailers!

Amiga email clients:
a) Microdot: shareware, threaded emails(!!), keeps mail accounts seperate, and doubles as a newsreader which treats newsgroups like mail folders. ( www.vapor.com )
b) YAM: freeware/open-source, long time favorite of many, lots of supporting arexx scripts can be found to do numerous things. ( aminet )
c) SimpleMail: freeware/open-source, a recent favorite of many, it's the only amiga emailer I know of that supports smtp-auth. (source forge?)
d) AirMail Pro: shareware/commercial, don't know a bunch about this one but am told that it is really nice with incredible filtering, can even filter based on the mail-body. (uhm, google?)
There are more, but those are the top four in no real particular order. I have used microdot for a long time, and have been happy with it. However, I cannot really take anything away fromt the free emailers. Even microdot has a usable demo, so download and try them all! :-P

is there a way to import YAM emails into SimpleMail? I'd like to give SimpleMail a go but I'd also like to keep my existing sent and recieved emails..

There's just one problem with SimpleMail...
...it's not possible to get it running because it requires things not present on the web anymore. It's a waste of bandwidth to download it.

Yes. Simplemail comes with a rexx script that imports mails from YAM.

Hmmm I got SompleMail running just fine and I found all the required libs with no problem on Aminet. I dont know what your talking about.
