one small comment, the snapshoter uses fast mem without being in use. So I would recommend to quit it after start or remove from startup-sequence and only start it when needed.

Looking good :)
Have you spoken to Toni about getting this included with the WinUAE distro?
What kind of speed are you seeing on a real RTG 060 now, is it usable?
-
That button bank on bottom should also use prettier custom icons/images and maybe some nice background graphics etc :)

Already on my todo list :-)
regarding background graphics I am always open for new ideas. Up to now functionality had higher priority.

No the idea is new. I spoke with Cloanto to integrate it as addon but I have to reduce size (considerably) and right now have other priorities. I want to make it to the best (feature-rich) 68k distribution first before I think about it :-).
Toni Wilen distributes more than WinUAE with his roms? Was not aware of that.

I hope Wawa can test it. I have no capable hardware (only emulation) so I cannot test it. But it "feels" much faster compared to "Wanderer" (beside no bugs and much more functionality)

@Olaf
Olaf, I'm trying to see the point of another AROS distro that looks like the others except for the Wanderer desktop has been removed/replaced with Magellan. What's wrong with Wanderer? Wouldn't it have been easier and less confusing to just stick with Icaros or stock AROS and add a copy of Magellan? I've used Wanderer quite a bit and it's quite mature and responsive on my 7 yr old Dell laptop. I can understand users who are more comfortable managing files with Magellan and who would prefer using it over Wanderer. But I can't see the value of creating another separate distro that has replaced Wandere with Magellan.

Well you can try booting Icaros on your A1200 but you won't get very far, likewise you can try running Vision on your Dell laptop but you won't get very far with that either unless you run it in UAE. ;)

Give me a week and I'll let you know how it runs on my A3000/060 with Picasso IV as I've just received an ATX PSU adapter for it this morning, just need to fit it when I get some free time.
-
I'd offer to test it, but I don't think my A500 would run it. Still waiting on someone making a decent accelerator for it. :/

Doh! My bad. I didn't realize this was a 68K version of AROS. Please ignore my earlier post Olaf!

that would be fine :-)

To the general comment regarding "Why not Wanderer". Where should I start? I could tell you about the desktop features, Hotkey, file tpyes, file snooper and so on. To say it short... Wanderer would have to be very very heavily updated to be in any way competitive. When was the last substantial Wanderer update? And I do not talk about known bugs. So I will predict that all AROS distributions will use Magellan as desktop as soon as it is available for the different platforms. I heavily used and use Magellan and do not understand what people prefer at Wanderer. The only "advantage" Wanderer has, it is based on Zune (what a problem is because by this Wanderer inherits every Zune bug). If people want that they can still downgrade Magellan to a kind of Wanderer but it makes no sense. Magellan gives you every freedom and that is what I enjoy at it.

Actually it's not very clear that AROS Vision is for 68K Amigas... I wonder how many others don't realise this fact? ;)

It's like fighting with windmills with some people ;) I've been doing that since 90's, but some just insists WB instead of Magellan ;) It's awful.

I've decided (after playing around with Amikit on my real Amiga) that it's really down to Workbench replacements being rather different than Workbench that is annoying.
When you're so used to things being in certain places, then suddenly they're elsewhere... then you have to relearn everything. But at least it isn't Windows 9x-Windows 7 vs Windows 8 bad...
I use Workbench and think "I like this a lot!" Then use DOpus, and think "I like this a lot too, but for some different reasons!" Then think "Crap, where is this?" and sometimes just flip back to Workbench because I know where it is there.
I'm going to have to give this a shot on my A4000D/060 with Radeon when I get home :D

Heheh :)
It should really have 68k, Classic or something in the article heading to make it clearer I think.
-
I totally agree with slaapliedje.
In my case I try to avoid Magellan at all costs, because it is very different from Workbench (but I do use Dopus 4.16 as my filemanager). I do like ScalOS a lot, and absolutely love the tiny arrow gadget on Wanderer, that goes one directory up.

Time for a dumb question* regarding Magellan. How do you run executable files under Magellan? Every time I try switching over from workbench, about half of the programs that just work under workbench throw up a requester asking me what program to run them with.
*I just started using Amigas around 2005 or 2006, so I didn't get to use this stuff in its heyday. Now it's kind of hard to find relevant info online because most tutorials/faqs/guides just seem to assume that the reader already knows the basics.

I do not have the problem (most 68k software works). Do you use it as Workbench replacement?
