I've recently saved two Amiga's from the dump. They were both originally used for video editing, so they both have the Video Toaster cards. I don't have a mouse, but I did get both of them to boot up and see that their is a Video Toaster partition on both of them. As I only need one, I wanted to see how much one is worth or if it's something I could trade for another vintage computer like an Atari 800 or Apple II. The one I'm thinking of getting rid of is missing the two case screws on the back and is a little dirty, but not really yellowing. Its clock battery has leaked, but I'm handy with a soldering iron and can take care of that.

Anywhere from $300-$800+, depending on working condition, amount of battery leakage, and accessories included. Fair warning, value of these 20-year-old computers is a controversial topic on this website; but in any case, welcome, and thanks for saving them from the dump!!! :D

Any tips where I should dumpster dive to find Amiga 4000s???

I've got an Apple //e that works, has some internal expansions and also the 5.25" floppy drive bay. I have some original disks as well (oregon trail, steve jobs tribue - lol this isn't original). I am in the DC area and would be willing to meet halfway some time to arrange a swap of some sort. I've also got a spare mouse for you if you need one.

Here's what it looks like when it boots up, I found a 1084S monitor with them. It's got some burn in from video toaster. I would only really trade the computer itself as I only have one keyboard and no mouse. I don't really have any software to test it further, it did load Video Toaster though.

In this case they were from a small video editing outfit that used them until a few years ago. Then they sat in a corner for years until they decided to clean out their old analog equipment.

Here's my AtariAge account if anyone is actually interested in purchasing or trading.

I would pay between 400$ and 600$ for a 040 A4000 in fully working condition with keyboard and mouse :)
-
Ok, let me know if you're interested in the apple //e :) I can give you my spare mouse for you a4000 that you're keeping as well as a joystick if you like. How long of a drive is it for you to get to DC? If we find a halfway point, it would be cheaper and safer than shipping! Good find also, my friend. I would only need the computer, nothing extra.

Unfortunately, DC is a bit out of the way from Atlanta.

Yikes, that looks like a 10 hour drive! Well, if you are interested in doing any kind of swap or anything, just send me a message on here. I can always email pics and stuff :) We'd be at the hands of the shipping gods lol.

I poked around and found the system configuration if anyone is interested

You want more??
;)

10 hours is nothing, I make those kind of drives all the time for derby events, and would drive that in a heartbeat for a fully working A4000. The problem is, as always, coming up with funds to purchase said A4000, LOL. ;)
In any case, a local seller/buyer is always preferable to shipping these old machines. Best of luck finding it a good home! :)

Enough is never enough, Sir!

A true word from a dedicated Amigan :)
Amigas are just great machines !

And the Amiga has been traded for an Apple IIe setup. I found someone in Atlanta over at AtariAge that was interested. Thanks to everyone who expressed interest.

Since you're the expert, what does a good working Apple IIe setup go for these days? Are they really up to the same value as an A4000? Crazy! I've occasionally thought about going after an old IIGS, had some school memories of those, but they seemed out of my price range the couple times I checked.

Well here's what I got for the Amiga,

The guy I traded with was also nice enough to burn a couple of discs with some games and ATDPro to get me started. I guess it's lucky he was local, I don't even want to think about what it would have cost to have all this shipped.

DHO! damn you traded an 040 A4000 in good operating & mechanical shape for an Apple product that can't even touch a C64:shocked:
I know different strokes for different folks et all but damn I've got a Vic20 to trade if you ever get another A4000 ok:)
