Hi all,
i wanted to make a Walker case, i know many others have had a go at this with some being stunning, so here is my attempt
the case is all ali and has taken a long, long time to complete, i am pleased with the results but i had to make some comprimises to get everything inside and working, anyway here it is

and a few more shots

Nice work. It certainly looks like the Walker. Bloody hideous design IMHO, but totally unique. :)
What have you put inside it?
-
nothing exciting, it is just a core2duo with 4gb and a keyrah so i can use Amiga joysticks :)
-
I'd stick in an FPGA ARCADE board and make it a decent computer :D

how so? what would i gain?

The ability to run Amiga programs, games and demos natively, with a small fraction of the power used by a Core2Duo machine.

Nice to see someone using a Keyrah. :)
I guess you could also hack up a real wedge Amiga (A dead one of course) and make a matching keyboard to go with it. I stuck my Keyrah in an empty A1200 case I had left over after moving the motherboard into an Elbox tower.

actually i made a black A1200 with a laptop mobo inside, i took it to the show in Blackpool a couple of years ago, no one knew it was a PC till they were told.
it looked like an Amiga and felt like an Amiga :)
there is a link to it here

Wow, looks great! How much work would you say you put into doing that? Hours/cost?
-
Looks considerably better made then the original!
-
Well done. If you ever decide to sell copies of your creation I would be interested. I'd probably put a core i7 in it though..
-
stunning!!
Personally I always did like the walker casing.
But yes, I would also go for the fpgaarcade, just because.

hmmmm good question, i suppose the cost could be worked out, time to scare myself
design, machining, welding and cutting time, very approx - 25 to 30 hours, going rate about £45 an hour so £1350 ish.
Material - ali sheet, 2 x ali panels and 4 x ali blocks for the feet - £100
Filling, shaping and painting - £80
PC mobo, memory, hard drive, dvd drive, usb car reader, keyrah, keybaord and mouse - £110 ish
very approx total - £1640
glad i didn't need to pay some one else for all that lol :)

Yeesh. £45 an hour? I am in the wrong line of work! ;)

How much d'ya think you cost your boss? At least double what you're earning, then double that to answer the question what your boss is charging his/her customers for an hour of your work ;).
-
yay it is finally finished and fully working :)

Very nice stuff! When I did mine, I made it out of steel and she was a bugger to get all straight and true, heh. But I'm not a big fan of welding aluminum, and I chose to make the taller Walker prototype model.
If you get a chance, make sure to share any technical drawings you did pre-fab on the case!

Hated the design when it was first show but would love to have one of these now... with Classic Amiga hardware. I'm thinking an A1200 with ACA123x and a Walker 3.2 ROM (or custom A1200 ROM with Walker ROM components) would be close to the original.
