Hello,
I've been trying to emulate cd32 on my real Amiga. I have original Idefix97 with a proper serial. it comes with an emulator but when I get to it, it either goes blank or does not dowload. I tried original cd32 games like desert strike some others.
I also tried Surf Squirrel. But it does goes in loop while searching for device maybe my cdrom was not meant to run with this software.
So what is the best way to run Cd32 on real amiga?

Do the CD's actually mount when you insert them?
-
yes idefix97 has been working for more than a decade for me. I can mount cd's without any problem with Idefix but not with SurfSquirrel

Have you tried using a different CD filesystem in your CD0: mountlist?

Hello,

I'm assuming you're talking about Amiga 1200 (don't know if it works on
A4000) ?
I can send you contents of RAD: disk to use for that purpose (it includes
CD32 emulator) , you just reboot , disable everything but RAD: and it will
hopefully run CD32 games ...
Microcosm works great at least , not so sure about the music I think I
had to ouput CDAudio from the back of the CD drive to get it to play ...
Hower it's made to use CD which is connected as slave on Amiga IDE with Idefix97 ...

yeah that would be great!
I pm'd you my email address... Thank you for the trouble

Mail sent , two identical archives (zip & lha) just in case ...

I used to use the Asimware ASIMCDFS's emulator on my A1200. Most CD32 games worked quite well. It was easy to setup and use too.

Yes I used that one too but had more luck with Idefix CD32 emulator ...
I was never able to get AsimCDFS to play Microcosm though ...

Does BlazeWCP help with playing CD32 games due to the lack of the Akiko chip?

Never tried it , games that use it (quite a few from my experience) like Fears CD32 and possibly alien breed just don't work ...
Microcosm,Alien Breed Tower Assault,Star Crusader,Body Blows / Project X,Pirates Gold,Black Viper,Case oF the Cautious Condor,Uropa 2,Final Oddyssey,Wasted Dream,On Escapee,Simon The Sorcerer,Beneath The steel Sky all worked ...
And I think I used CacheCDFS in that RAD drive now that I think about it :elvis:
I hope he got it working ...

Might be worth giving Blaze a try to see if it helps if you ever get time.
I've always been an AsimCDFS guy. It's never let me down. :)

I use the SquirrelSCSI with an external CD Rom, the CD32 Emulator software that comes with it works pretty well on my A1200. I used to use IDEfix97 with an IDE CD drive hanging out the side of the 1200, but that was years ago, and I don't think the CD32 Emulator it had was quite as good as the Squirrel's.
Anything that requires the Akiko chip or FMV module is a no no though. Some games like the Lotus trilogy just use the Akiko for some kind of copy protection so won't work despite not using it for its C2P functionality :-( .
You'll need an audio mixer to mix the CD audio output with the Amiga's audio if you want to hear CD audio. You could make one relatively easily, or use a cheap 2 channel DJ type mixer etc.
There is a hacked version of the CD32 Lotus Trilogy in existence that works well, albeit without the CD audio on AGA machines (it may also work on ECS, as I don't think any of the Lotus games are AGA specific). Also an AGA conversion of Wing Commander exists, based on the CD32 release which is pretty nice in 256 colours on any A1200/4000 with an 030 or above.

Never heard of it until now so, er no..:-( I can't see it being much better than using a real CD drive though, unless it emulates the Akiko chip, and somehow re-directs the CD audio through the Amiga's Audio - which I very much doubt it does, or is even possible unfortunately. The home page for 'CD32 Install Games kit' certainly makes no mention of any Akiko emulation.
I may download it and take a look if I get chance on a rainy day :-)
