BeagleBone Black
ARM Cortex-A8 Board with 512 MB RAM and 2 GB Flash
The BeagleBone Black is a credit-card sized computer board (86 mm x 53 mm), similar to the Raspberry Pi (http://www.vesalia.de/e_raspberrypi.htm). Its CPU is a TI Sitara AM335x ARM Cortex processor clocked at 1 GHz. The BeagleBone Black additionally comes with 512 MB RAM, 2 GB Flash, Ethernet (10/100 Mbit) and an onboard Micro-HDMI connector.

Yep. About the only thing it doesn't match up on is the inclusion of flash storage, and adding a 2GB SD card would still probably leave it cheaper overall. So unless this has some advantage like fully open, documented hardware...

It has a lot more GPIO pins than the PI I believe.

According to what I have read, the Pi has special h.264 movie playing hardware so that is what you get for watching movies.
The Beagle#? boards are more for controlling devices with all those I/O pins. Like you can control lights, robots, electric trains, burglar alarms, nuclear missiles and other fun things.

Hi Guys! I got my BeagleBone Black on July 11th and completely forgot about putting Amiga OS onto it. That was also the day I gave my Raspberry Pi to my 13 year old nephew.
Yes, Amiga is one of my interests, more specifically, the Amiga 500 which I had in 1988 for my 18th birthday and high school graduation. I'm not a die-hard Amiga fanatic, but the interest is there.
I'm running Angstrom on my BeagleBone Black. I once installed E-UAE, but didn't configure it, mostly because I didn't know how.
I've Amiga Forever 2013 in my Win7 installation. Can someone point to a link on how to get E-UAE to run Amiga 500 with sound? Thanks in advance!

Nope, cheaper yes.
Pi matches a Pentium II 233 in CPU power
This one matches a SAM733 ...
But all in all the Cubieboard is more appealing.
There is also a Quadcore 2GHZ board called Wandboard.

I think i would rather have an ODroid http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/main.php, although its much more expensive than the pi and the beagle.

Yeah, I notice that... This board has the better CPU, but the Pi's graphics chip is better... Perhaps unsurprising given the fact that the Pi is a gfx chip with a housekeeping CPU bolted on the side :)

Come on - you cant compare one architecture to x86 and another to PPC like that. At the very least you have to compare the BB to another x86 chip.
You also have to consider the potential usage scenario. I would wager that the gpu potential for number crunching in the Pi to be orders of magnitude higher than a PII 233.

I had grand plans for my Pi then came to the realization that my x86 Linux boxes were better suited.
So my Pi now sits underneath our living room TV running OpenElec.tv

What I don't like about the Beaglebone or Beagleboard is that one of the chips has a 3500 page datasheet. It isn't light reading.

Ouya is also giving Raspberry Pi some competition. So are lots of other $99.00 and less ARM computers.
You can also go crazy and buy top of the line $600.00 systems like Samsung Galaxy S4 with a built-in 1920x1080 touch screen, gps, cellphone, radio, compass, everything but the kitchen sync. And you get a very nice quad-core ARM CPU @ around 1.6Ghz per core + a fancy 3D floating point math core for 3D gamez, 1 GB RAM, etc. etc.
Its a whole lot more than a Pi but it has a built in touch screen and those are expensive. It also has a massively better CPU.
There are a great many ARM based computers to choose from that can run Linux and/or Android and/or something else.
Arm is everywhere.
