Which would make a better (faster/better through put) controller for a hard drive in my A2000, the SCSI II interface on my GVP '040 accelerator (connected to an SCSI III or better drive) or the IDE connector on an X -SURF 3CC board (connected to an ATA100 or 133 drive)?
Does anyone know if GVP used a wide or narrow fast controller (I'm inclined to think the former)?

SCSI wins for speed and CPU consumption everytime, but if it's just a boot drive only then the IDE would suffice.
IDE would make it easier to mount the drive in a PC/Mac for use with emulators or MorphOS etc.

SCSI on the accelerator all the way.

OK, that is kind of what I thought.
Plus I have some later SCSI drives that are backward compatible with the right adapter.
Imagine an Amiga with a 10,000 or 15,000 rpm drive.
BTW - What problems am I'm going to have to deal with in terms of drive (or partition) size limitations?

Plus I don't think the X-Surf IDE can be made to boot.

You're still going to be limited by the xfer speed of your controller.
The usual - depends on the capability of your controller and whether you're using 3.1 vs 3.9, FFS/SFS/PFS, etc.

Of course, still, having a drive that exceeds the specs of the controller won't hurt performance.
I still haven't heard as to whether GVP used a wide or narrow fast controller (although considering when it was made, narrow seems likely).
The setup?
3.9 with a PFS3 filesystem.

As wonderful as computers can be, they can also be incredibly infuriating. Probably the most frustrating problem computer users run into are startup problems, where your computer won’t boot. Equally annoying are error messages you constantly run into during your computer’s startup process. In this article I’ll give you a few tips on how you can avoid some of the most common problems that happen right after your computer turns on.:roflmao::afro:

My God these spammers are getting desperate.
Sod off!

Why not go silent with an SSD? There are SATA/SCSI converters. Drives are cheap, but the adapters can be pricey.
PFS3 is about the best option out there, 3.9 is fine, although you could try some of the light variants out there if you don't mind losing eyecandy... Used betterwb for abit, pretty snappy...
Saw you were going with the PIV, these are the best Zorro Video card. I have never had or tried one, but wish I had one...

I have a PIV, it is a great card indeed.
I also hav a 32GB SDHC card connected to an ACard IDE to SCSI adapter plugged into my CSMK2/060 and it's lightning fast.
Well, when it's not in pieces awaiting a rebuild that is! :)
