I'm really happy that the site has been updated. I like Punkie's new pic and I think he has done a great job putting together that website. :-)

Thanks, glad you people are enjoying the site :-)

Heh, I was tempted to put up a picture of myself with a rather nice girl I met at new year, but I didn't because I thought it would be wrong to exploit her image in order to make myself look cooler... uh, okay I didn't use it 'cause I look like a dork in that picture. ;-)

I actually put that in as a place-holder, 'cause I'm lazy. If you look at the HTML you might guess why. Every time I put a single new image in, I have to shift everyone's image down round the table tags and things...

I need to come up with a better way to organise it all. Actually I've just had a small brainwave...

Yea great idea...

But is it not better to have the images as reduced sized buttons (all the same height)

"info"

The page will load a bit faster....

Just a suggestion....
And clicking on their name will take you their website...?

Ummm...  I don't think so. The image scaling you suggested would scale the image in the user's browser AFTER they already downloaded it. The proper way to do what you suggest would be to scale the images on the server side, sorta like how we are forced to do with our avatars.

Your suggestion may however help improve the overall look of the site, but some images will be stretched a fair bit and look even freakier then they already are.  ;-) (that's a joke btw :-D ).

Look again. ;)

But I agree with that it sucks to make the clients scale images. The width=x height=y is quite good to have there, as long as it specifies the actual size of the image (makes the layout rendering quicker, and you can see where there's supposed to be pictures if they're broken or you've got image loading turned off).

Blobrana's is a thumbnail in this vein, have a click :-) It works nice enough, thing is I don't have the time to resize everyone's pics and everything. Besides that most people's images are not so much bigger than the tags specify, so there's no real performance hit. The idea was never to have ultra-high-res pics of everyone, just big enough photos so you can actually see what they look like (cyka take note ;-))

I'm thinking about getting my webserver back up and running and then maybe I can run some kind of photo album PERL/PHP scripts (open to suggestions there if anyone knows what might look nice)...

Thing is my home server couldn't cope with hosting Faces. 128kbps upstream is not a lot when you're getting the kind of hits Faces does (tens of thousands so far by my estimate :-o) so I'd have to keep the actual images on my faster NTL webspace... maybe via an automated FTP upload... goddamn it's complicated!

Hmmm...  Well, if you're worried about the bandwidth of the pictures themselves, you can store the actual pics on the server they are currently stored on, and have YOUR server generate HTML linking to them. This way, the load on your server will be pretty tiny. Even better would be to simply have your perl script generate the HTML and then just batch copy everything over to the current server. This too should work as the Faces web site is pretty static, and would only need updating when new faces are added.

Yea you did type it out aloud...

Its actually an old picture from a olympus OM10 -  self-timer - with the negatives transfered to a CD -

Better quality than my 2.1 megapix digital camera that i have now :(

Sry, my idea was to have Thumbnail sized pictures of everybody...

[thumbnail = small ]

Cute! I just realized in my pic there's a red spot on my head!  I wonder how I managed that?  Of course the fact that I can't remember is a bit unnerving lol

Anyway hello everyone that's me, and I've been an Amiga lover since 1994.

I'll be going out of town until late tomorrow so I'll see how I do while not checking amiga.org in that time :-(
