How do i get nice readable and smooth fonts for ibrowse? I have tried to convert truetype fonts but with no luck :-(
Look at these awful fonts:
-
Hmmm....here are a couple of "guides" which helped me a bit..
http://ragriffi.home.sprynet.com/ttflib.htm
or
http://www.kittycat.co.uk/computing/webfonts/
Both of them require the ttf package, but IMO it's worth the effort for
nice fonts (Arial, Tahoma and Verdana are a few good fonts to try for browsers).
Nice IB buttons, BTW!
-
Thanks m8! I`ll check it out :-)
My ibrowse settings require 5 mb ram :-o I need to shrink that abit :-)
-
there have been set of TTF fonts to download and also snapshot of IBrowse font settings and explanation how to configure to IBrowse pages have the same [or mostly the same] look with fonts as on PCs or MACs on GFXBase site.
The link was somewere top right, you can check the page, maybe link is still there.
I replaced all horrifying Topaz fonts with excellent looking Verdana [it is for a start] and everything looks normal, not ugly anymore.
I hope OS4 will have standard set of fonts for IBrowse...

Check out this guide:

Edit: Oh wait...someone already posted that link :-)

Need some feedback from you guys, before it is released

-
Yes yes! Please post. I like it.

hi restore2003,
i'm still waiting too :-)
Ciao

@lempkee:
but you have to test the entire package ;-)
including visualprefs and birdie :-)
-
@lempkee framiga:
you both got mail :-)
Give some feedback if it doesnt work!

remember that it looks best at a 1152x864 resolution
-
Hi restore2003
OK . . .just received, thanks :-)
Ciao
-
restore:yes i will test it all ofcourse (in 3.9 for now)
anyway NO EMAIL YET! ...sent to the correct addy? :)
-
An Amiga cant get much faster then mine as well. i'd love to test it out for you. E-Mail info is in the about me section or the tab below.
-
@acill:
cant find any email adress :-( give it here instead
-
Hi restore2003
it looks very nice here too but, too heavy for my system/mem.
Anyway i suggest you, to make a readme file, with the istructions to skins things (not the prefs files).
Everyone then is free to chose which part of the archive to use or not.
Last suggestion . . . .for systems with at least 32 MB of ram.
Really a good work :-)
Ciao
PS- i've already installed Birdie, VisualPrefs, MagicMenu from a life.
-
restore: send it to me, i won't have any memory problems as seen in my signature :)
-
Hi Restore,
Dude, i'm simply in love with your scheme !!! :-D
Please, let me try this here on my system.
A1200/060 64MB RAM, Mediator Voodoo3 3000.
My e-mail: mugo@terra.com.br
Thanks !
-
Hi Restore 2003
. . .restore. . .please . . . send the archive to haymiggan too, before he beginnings to cry :-)
Ciao
-
restore:
ok , i got some issues ;(
copied over all , birdie and Vp works fine but the mui parts ugh...all crap.
i think first of all u should make a base structure so that it fits on generic system.
ie like sys:mui/ sys:utilities/vp sys:c/birdie/patterns etc.
as the prefs files didnt do much good ;(
anyway i messed around and vp + birde is ok but mui no..
other than that, very nice but i have 1.2 meg free gfx mem :P
very hard useage for an a1200 bppc (which has 8mb MAX rtg)
nice job though, love it and i wanna use it :)
so help! :)
-
Ok, im back from a party at my neighbour, kinda drunk, but amazingly i can type without errors :-D my head is spinning though :-( , and my gf has collapsed on the couch :-)
@lempkee:
But i did that before i created the .lha :-?
If i can see i on your system, it will be easier for me to understand whats really wrong :-)
-
Hi restore,
there is absolutely nothing wrong in your archive. . .it is only a little bit redoundant.
I'm still using NOW your buttons in IB2.3 with a white shin, and it looks amazing!!!
My suggestion, still that nobody will use your FULL archive, due personal taste.
The materials/skins/backgrounds are GREAT! anyone will be free to use it of only a part of it.
Cheers :-)
Last but not least . . i suggest you, to remove Birdie2000 from the final archive ;)
-
Ok, a new package will be made sometime today ;-)
@framiga:
Can you post a screenshot of how it looks on your setup?
-
hmmm..
mui skin didnt go where it should and vp prefs file i cant find.
i tried from scratch now.
i can add all manuanlly but that will take a long time.
anyway main prob for me is the mui stuff.
i will try some more later but i can say that so far browser buttons etc are showing but not transparent so it looks very weird , fonts in ib are not good + all buttons looks weird (nothing like your screenshots) , so its pretty clear...something is wrong here :)
ps:your birdie prefs only needs 4.2 megs of gfx mem! :D looks awesome though...
-
Hey restore2003! How about sending this mean IB-improvement archive in my direction? Or convince Lempkee to part with it, since I see him online more or less regularly.
-
if he i get an OK from restore to do that tanzyr i will send u, but i wont before i know restore thinks its ok :)
restore: i am doing it all manually now to see if i can get better results , the browser buttons (images) which menu did u edit them in? , they aint wanting to be transparent.
its not TOOLBAR atleast , i think...HMM wonder whats going on.
i have a feeling that it will be better by a step by step walktrough instead of sending prefs files!..
other than that , MAN i dont ever wanna go away from vp again in 3.9 , looks so damn fine! , exellent work restore!!!
-
@lempkee:
good that atleast vp works :-)
If you have some spare time i can set up the package as it should be on your amiga :-)
-
other than that , MAN i dont ever wanna go away from vp again in 3.9 , looks so damn fine! , exellent work restore!!!
about time you realised that... you former VP hater...
-
i hate it still haymigga , and i wont use it unless i am in 3.9 :)
main problem with vp is the use of gfx mem!
with all of this skin i am down in 0.1 mb free rtg mem! (vp , birdie , mui)
;(
-
@lempkee:
Isnt there a patch that makes images and graphics use fastmem instead?
And btw, mui MUST be on the dh0: partition for the prefs file to work!
dh0:mui/
-
hi Lempkee,
in IB, the toolbar is made by BUTTONS.
So you can modify in MUI prefs/Buttons, the button frame size to 0.
Obviously, in that way, even the Fastlinks buttons will be without frames (and other related buttons even in the Browser window)
The problem with the ghosted images, still anyway.
Ciao

For systems that have a graphics card, that's not a problem. However, FBlit usually does the trick on AGA systems (no gfx card). FBlit can be found HERE (http://www.tpec.u-net.com).

Ok Folks, i tried this at my system, and after a lot of hassle, i have my own opinion:
The Scheme looks absolutly superb ! Really !!
But there are some problems, and i think that's the reason to Restore ask us to try it first :)
So, Restore, i think that the scheme is at first too much hungry for memory. I have An 060/64MHz with 64 MB of RAM, and a Voodoo 3 3000 with 15 MB of Video Ram available for the system to use it. Well, my system only starts to use the Fast Memory for Video stuff, when the Video Ram from Voodoo is low, and after i installed the scheme, there's only 40 MB available to play with. Before, i had 62 MB available. When i start IBrowse, the situation is even worst, and i have only about 32 MB free Fast Memory.
So my first suggestion is to try to reduce the memory requirements. I know, it's not easy. Me, myself couldn't do that, because my graphics abilities sucks. For example, there are images, or textures that are 24 or 32 bit ? Can them be reduced to 16 bit ?
Besides that, i couldn't achive the same result as you on the MUI prefs, because there's one texture missing. It's the image should be on mui prefs, at buttons/background. I can't remember the filename, but i think that's button.jpg, and the file is not included on the archive. So my toolbar appears with an weird gray square behind the buttons.
So my suggestion for the MUI problem is quite simple. Just use the MUI: assign, when configuring your MUI prefs, instead to select DH0:mui/xxx when the image requests appears. Because the MUI: assign is the same for everyone that uses MUI, so you just have to say people to put the patterns on the patterns/ directory at the MUI: assign.
The same could be done for the rest of the files. You could put all the files at the same folder, obviously each one on it's own subfolder, and create an assign to that parent folder. After that, configure everything again, and tell people to create an assign with the same name you use, to their own paths. This way shouldn't be any problem in the installation. You could too create an install script. :)
I think too, that the MUI prefs could be used as the global prefs, because it's really cool, and this way you can have an uniform system look. You just have to rename the IBROWSE.prefs file that is at the Envarc:mui/ path to <>.prefs. By the way, the "strange" characters before and after the word global, can be done with the combo alt+9 and alt+0.
Now to be really happy, beside the fact that i would really like to see the memory requirements get lower, i only need know some way to make Powericons works with Dopus Magellan, and Amidock, because the icons appears, but after the reboot they are not at the dock anymore. And of course, i need now some transparent background for the dock too :-D
Anyway, Restore I'm really amazed. Wonderful job !!! Our community thanks you !
-
Wow! thanks for the testing! i will mail you the updated package, that is less memory hungry :-)
-
Super sweet setup, spiced up my system a bit...
now if only Amiga.org allowed 1280x960 pictures to be uploaded!
Also, 64MB fast is not a lot...get some more :=)
-
Can you mail it me tooo, please..............
-
Hi restore2003,
well . . . just finished to test the reduced archive.
So my personal suggestions are
Minimum system requirement:
- a 060 cpu and a GFX card with 8 MB (CVision-BVision)
- at least 32MB of FAST RAM
Recommended system:
-CSPPC or BPPC with 128 MB of RAM
-Mediator/Voodoo card
Here with a CV64/4MB is "quite" impossible, to use the full archive.
Anyway, i'm now using some skins and MUI scheme, very very nice.
I would like to use/test all the archive but it is impossible for my actual enviroment.
Great work, Restore :-)
Cheers
-
@framiga:
What part of the archive used most ram? I think i can make it more friendly :-)
-
Hi restore,
mhhh!! i've already tryed to reduce something here and there.
The most problem, still the WB and windows backgrounds and they are already reduced.
Fot IBrowse side, you should provide an IBrowse.prefs example file (togheter the mui one) otherwise the Yahoo/Google/Aminet Buttons, will not appeare.
No problem for me . . . .make some reduced skins/backgrounds in the final archive.
For a 4MB GFX card . . . will be impossible to use ALL the archive anyway. (reduced or not)
Don't worry . . .the most of the actual system, has the right configuration.
For other guys, like me the archive will be usefull anyway.
Ciao
EDITED_ ie . . . i would like an IBrowse Navigation buttons image, reduced at ~85%
-
me and restore where at irc yesterday for the whole day and i tested memory useage (GFX CARD) for everything we did, the new update of his package should now be less cpu hungry and less memory hungry , it was for me anyway!.
(reduced from 8mb in use to 3.7)
now i have around 5mb free so thats ok for me :)
and yes i love it too :)))
cheers
-
Oh God ! These are really great news ! 3.7 MB memory usage is quite good !
I'm in the line for testing this new reduced version, Restore ! Please remind me !! :-D
Let's move !

@lempkee framiga:
you both got mail
Give some feedback if it doesnt work!
here some feedback:
i've found a VIRUS in your packages.
VIRUS= "HappyNewYear 96'"
-Birdie
-MagicMenu and MagicMenuPrefs
and
-/Mui/Images/Kmel/Kmel_knob2.image
The same virus is present in "GlassAmiga.lha" and GlassAmigaV2.lha" (both from Restore2003) archives. (same files)
Someone else has found those virus in the Restore2003 archives?
It is very, very important for me to know if other users, has found it.
Cheers
-
Yeah, i had virus probs earlier, luckily their gone, just delete the archive or whatever, and i can send a new one without virus
-
btw its a harmless virus, and virusz v1.0 removes it without any hazzle
-
yes i can confirm that there is a (was) a virus or 2 in the package , but i checked the lha when i got it sent, think i forgot to tell restore about it....sorry about that.
anyway its a harmless virus, all it does is give u mem issues and some sw failures ,but u should remove it ofcourse :-)
cheers
