Title: Oscillator Crystal Pin 1?

Alright forgive me for asking such a stupid question, but how do you tell which pin is pin 1 on an oscillator crystal?  Is it the one with a dot on the other side? And how would I know where pin 1 is on the gvp 68030 accelerator board I am trying to put it in?

The oscillator has a small dot or a triangle in one corner. The socket has a notch on the end with pin 1. When the notch points up pin 1 is top left. Usually, pin 1 also has a square solder pad.
