Title: The X500 Evo mechanical keyboard and custom black Amiga keys
Post by: TheDaddy on June 02, 2013, 12:55:20 PM
Hi everyone,

Here (http://www.loriano.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/top.htm) you can find my final set of black, with white laser etching, Amiga key caps set for mechanical keyboards.

I've redesigned the left and right Amiga keys completely, the right one in particular is as close as I could make it to the original. Reworked Shift, Alt, Tab, Enter, Return arrow and other symbols. Increased the font size for all the letters, redesigned the dollar sign. Moved Help under Screen Lock. I'm very happy with the results. :D

This set will be present on the X500 Evo cases. Please remember to state the colour of your keyboard.

Also showing a combination of black and beige.

The LEDs behave in the same manner as the LEDs under the beige and white keys. ;)

Price to be announced, they are expensive so the more we order the less we pay.

For those who want a USB standalone keyboard with my Amiga keys in black or white or black/white/beige these are the options:

1) You order just the full key caps set and then apply them to your mechanical keyboard these should be compatible with keyboards using Cherry MX switches (Blue, Red, Brown, Black), keyboard such as:

Filco, CM QuickFire Rapid, Das Ultimate and Ducky

2) you order a complete keyboard.

Look great!  Shame the Enter key is different than the one on my Corsair Vengeance K90 mechanical keyboard or I'd be all over this.

Keep up the good work, just keeps getting better.

Thank you. :)
I'll check if they're compatible with the Corsair Vengeance K90 keyboard.

2) you order a complete keyboard.
I`d be interested in a white complete KB (Red Cherry I suppose)
Waiting for pricing details and estimated time for ordering units.

Would it be difficult to adapt the LED colors on this keyboard? I'd rather like CD32 matching Red :)

I'm liking the black and white combo. :-) Red leds when be awesome.

On this keyboard model the LEDs are soldered so it would be just a question of unsoldering the green and putting the red in. I've also noticed that all the other keys have also a space for an LED. :D

Nice, but the CTRL key is in the wrong spot!

No it's not.
Don't forget that this is a PC keyboard not an Amiga one. It just has the Amiga keys instead of the Windows logo ones for means of nostalgia and emulator fun.

A quick off topic...

All the LEDs (sleeved and with the colour coded heatshrink) to be used in the X500 Plus and the X500 Evo cases have arrived:

Then what's the point of Amiga keys if the layout doesn't match the original?  If you want it to look like an Amiga, then make it so... don't quit halfway through.

Besides, I think the CTRL keys is much more conveniently placed on the Amiga than on a PC keyboard.  The pinkie instinctively rests on the CTRL key, making it easy to hit CTRL+C, CTRL+D, etc.  Who uses the Caps Lock anyways?

(Disclaimer: I don't mean to be rude, I'm just an "all the way or nothing" type of person)

There is no quitting half way through. These custom key caps were designed exclusively for the X500 Evo case and it happens that by ordering a few extra sets some people will be able to apply them to their own, already "PC standard" USB mechanical keyboards or buy a complete USB mechanical keyboard with the set from me. This way they can use a PC running WinUAE, MOS, AOS4 etc...

I never had the intention of making a replica of the Amiga keyboard, why would I want to do that when there are hundreds of mechanical keyboards out there screaming for a high quality Amiga key caps set?
:)

This a complete set of Amiga keys for a, let's call it, generic, mechanical keyboard. You get the set in white and beige or black and apply it to your choice of mechanical keyboard (model compatibility applies).
That's all. ;)

Just look at those "A", the Enter, Shift, Return keys and smile... :D

It looks like the majority are interested in the Cherry MX Blue (clickety) switches.
What do you think?
Check youtube for the different types of Switches (Red, Blue, Black and Brown).
I do like the Black or Red ones myself. :D

Just checked all of them again (reviews and youtube videos), and I`m more of a Blue switch type.
So, full Cherry MX Blue KB for me with white & beige keys.
Is it possible to have a Red Led on CapsLock?

Can someone explain how you can order a keyboard, and Amiga key sets?  You have to order the keyboard and Amiga keys separate?

Yes you're right, the Blue switches have that nice satisfactory click. :)
I'm only going to order 5 maybe 10 sets of the full Amiga key caps I made.
The rest are going in the X500 Evo cases.
Regarding the keyboards:

You can get the full set of Amiga key caps I've made (white and beige or all black) for your mechanical keyboard of your choice (you have to buy one yourself) - the key caps should be compatible with the following keyboards:

Filco, CM QuickFire Rapid, Das Ultimate and Ducky (I use Ducky DK2108 Zero for the X500 Evo case I designed and in the standalone USB mechanical keyboards).

my email: amigarulez@hotmail.com

From what I know the Ducky comes with green LEDs, I am not sure about other keyboards. You could get a Ducky and replace the green LED with a red one. :)

I would advise to get a mechanical keyboard yourself (one of the models and make mentioned above), especially if you're in the States as you use a different layout (the Return key for example is different from the U.K. one) and order the Amiga key caps from me :D

Above email. Thanks :)

Hello,

Quick update:

I've just completed the Amiga key caps for the following languages:

Italian
German
U.K. (base layout)
Russian (dual U.K./Russian)
Serbian-Latin
Danish
Swedish/Finnish
U.S.A. (rectangular shaped Enter key version - ANSI)
U.S.A. (ISO version, big Enter key as in the U.K. version but with American symbols and letters positioned where they should be for example "@" on "2", "\" stays on the left and so on...)
Spanish (es-ES)

More languages when I've got some spare time... :)

I have a Cherry MX keyboard, I would buy just the two Amiga keys to replace my Windows keys if you can do those separately.

Evo and Plus cases update:

Added the "kyle's cut out" on both the rear of the X500 Plus and X500 Evo on kyle's suggestion... :D

What is it?

It's a rectangular shaped cut out where you can put the VGA connector from your graphics card and have an extra display (so for example a CRT monitor to the VGA and a TFT display on the DVI/HDMI).

I think it's meant for gaming goodness. :D

Thanks.

Everyone,

The first Evo standalone USB keyboard with custom made laser etched (white on black) keys has gone out.

This is Vox's and he is going to use it with his AmigaOne X1000.
It's on his way to Serbia, hence my full set of custom made Amiga keys in Serbia-Latin language layout. Vox went for the complete package (Ducky Zero mechanical keyboard with Blue Cherry switches and custom made keys).

Some photos:

I've completed the following languages:

American, U.K., Italian, French, Russian, Serbian-Latin, Spanish, German, Swedish, Danish, Greek.

Thanks. :)

Very nice, but I may not always use something like this for an Amiga related system.
So the standard keyboard would not be a problem.
Could you show us a few more full pictures?

Without any worries, this mine set can be sold in Bosnia; Croatia; Slovenia, just labeled "Bosnian", "Croatian","Slovenian" - it covers the needed Alphabet.

Something that AROS and MorphOS users might like too :-)

And finally the keyboards with the Cherry MX Brown switches have arrived:

And, I have to say, they are really nice, with a good tactile feedback. Ideal for typing and gaming. ;-)

These are the mechanical keyboards used in my X500 Evo project (the X500 case with mechanical keyboard and laser etched Amiga keys).

But they are also available as standlalone USB keyboards to be used with Amigas with USB ports, AmigaOnes, PCs etc... :)

Thanks.

A big thank you goes to Hyperion for supporting this project and Johannes for general MOS advice. ;)

A colour Boing Ball on light beige key is also available.
