Title: help getting my old scsi external HD going with my A1000
Post by: klx300r on May 29, 2013, 10:29:58 PM
Hi guys, setting up my faithful A1000 in my newly built home office and trying to get my Golem scsi external HD up & booting wb1.3 again.  Last time I had my A1000 set up she booted up fine but now the scsi HD is not seen and I can only boot up using my kick and wb disks.

don't recall (or at least I can't find) any setup disk so any help will be appreciated.

here's some info from the web on my scsi controller & external drive:

Golem HD3000 & HD3000A- A500 / A1000 version

Side interface connector clean?  Sure it's getting power?  Any activity from the HD at all?  (spinning up, etc.?)

-cleaner than clean
- powers up great and LED's on both external drive and controller card

pretty sure it's not hardware related but scsi driver setup related but can't find the controller card disk for the life of me and can't find it on the net either.

Does the GolemSCSI.dms disk not contain the software to set it up?

  • the interface box connects to the side expansion connector and has passthrough connector
  • the separate hard disk box has its own internal power supply and is connected by a DB19 cable
  • the A500 and A1000 interface boxes are different
  • place for a 3.5" hard disk inside the case
  • hard disk activity LED
  • power LED (on HD3000A only)

ok my scsi HD is now back up & running once again:knuddel:

it appears it wasn't a scsi driver issue afterall but was the fact that my internal Spirit 1000 board did not like my other 2MB external ram card.  Once I disabled the ram box the HD booted up right after I installed the kickstart disk!

Yeah, I'm sure you probably had a few bus issues just getting the stuff set up in the first place.

The only memory I could ever get working with my DataFlyer controllers wa  the 8 megs on the DataFlyer itself. (Not counting 32 bit memory on the Derringer.)

But it seems that more than one device involving the expansion port was hit and miss at best.  I had even procured some custom PAL's to adjust the timing on my Rejuvenator, but even then a pull-up resistor was needed on one pin of the expansion bus.
