Title: System 3 reveals 'Putty Squad' return to mark 30th anniversary
Post by: SysAdmin on May 16, 2013, 06:48:50 AM
System 3 (http://www.digitalspy.com/companies/system-3/) has announced the return of Putty Squad.

The company will revive the 1992 Amiga game as part of the celebrations of its 30th anniversary.

The platformer's graphics have received a complete overhaul, with free  downloadable levels planned for the game and location-based services  offering extra content.

"Working on such a prestigious title  again - and to bring it up-to-date - brings back many great memories.  Fans of the original are [going to be] excited to get their hands on the  return of the morphing blue blob hero," said System 3 CEO Mark Cale.

"Putty Squad will be available on multiple platforms, where gamers can reconnect with their classic hero, discovering Putty unlike before."

The game will be released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, PC, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in the summer. Sadly a new Amiga version is not part of the celebration. But if your a big Putty fan and own one of the mentioned systems you should get some fun out of the new release.

Putty squad was never released for Amiga, though it was completely finished. Ive written many emails over the years to ask for a release, but sadly it never happened. Would be some good publicity for them if they released it now (for free) though!

What's really annoying is that the Amiga source code is probably next door to me right now.... but I can't get to it!

how much I care about putty squad? 0%
how much I care about them doing a last ninja remake? 100%

for a 30th anniversary I'd rather see something... iconic from their past.

Putty Squad, as Amiga game from 1992? That's the joke of century...
Surfing on titles which never met in public releases... Shame on System3...

Even the concept of Last ninja was stolen from the developers who never have been paid... For me S3 is under the bottom line on the list of creators who betrayed our brand...

Same thing happens, like with Babylonian twins... initiating waves on nostalgic feelings, which are completely false, if you know the story behind. And If anyone want to confute me, first release any of these titles on the Classic Amiga range, please...

"This critical success, but lack of a published version, has made Putty Squad one of the most sought-after Amiga titles"

Hmmm...maybe....

Finally, for those who are still in possession of what must by now be distinctly yellow-tinged Amiga hardware, Cale is hinting that System 3 is hoping to give them a reason to dust-off their keyboards and party like it’s 1994 by way of a pre-order incentive. Nothing is currently confirmed, but Cale hopes to be able to announce something later this year. Putty Squad is set for release on Vita, 3DS, PC, PS3 and 360, with the potential for a Wii U version and possible, modified version on iOS and Android to follow.

A pre-order incentive for what? The new Putty Squad on modern platforms? :|

Yeah... not sure if they are going to release it to build buzz in the forms or if you need to order a modern platform version in order to get it.

We will see... Logical would be a preorder form for Amiga 68k to see if need is justifying the efforts

Complete waste of time targeting the consoles with a game like this. Development time for God Awful consoles like the 3DS and Wii U must be staggering for the return they will get.  I own all the consoles.  I remember this game from the old days, and remember really enjoying it.  I don't see myself buying it and sitting in front of a TV playing it.

These types of games are ideal on tablets and mobile OS's.  Timesinks.  Games to play while on a plane or on the crapper for 99 cents in Play or App store.

I own a Wii U.  It's been out of the box once.  To call it a paperweight would be giving it far too much credit.

The XBox 360 and PS3 are going to be "last gen" in a few short months, even.
