Title: Help on setting up Amiga
Post by: chrisnewton on May 11, 2013, 07:24:09 PM
Hi all

I used to have an amiga growing up, and recently i have again managed to get my hands on one, however i have totally forgot how to set it up lol

It has an A520 modlator that i know goes in the back of the amiga, and a cable that goes into my tv aerial port into the back of the modulator.

What am i missing??

My TV is a brand new panasonic plasma tv if that helps..i feel really dumb but im stuck !!

Thanks for any help

Chris

The A520 modulator has 2 video out ports, one is composite and the other RF. The Composite video out is the same as Yellow, with audio Red and White connectors, use it the same way as your DVD player or game station. The RF one connects to your antenna plug on your TV (I would not use that one) and select Ch 3 or 4(in USA).

Thanks for your reply...im in the uk, i dont have a red or white cable with it, is it possible to use just the antenna one to get it to work then?

what i mean is the cable plugged into the back of the modulator that goes directly to the tv aerial socket?

It'll work, but you aren't going to like the display.....

Don't bother with a modulator. Get one of these cables http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=226
I think most modern TVs have a SCART input.

Thanks i got it working, and your right the display..uurrggghhh lol...thanks for the link and i might eventually get one of them, in the mean time though is the other method (composite) better than the display via aerial?

If so what cable do i need to do that method?

thanks again

Just buy SCART cable from amigakit, like golem suggested. You will get good picture with it. Note that most of LCD/Plasma tvs doesn't have more than one RGB scart, second one is composite so use with scart adabter.

Once you get the SCART cable, you might try the SCART to HDMI box sold on eBay for about 30£ to get 720/1080p on your new TV.

WHy??? It woun't change resolution, it would just scale it up, just like TV will do anyway.
