In an effort to renew development efforts for Aladdin4D we will be making it shared-source commercial software. What this means is source code to Aladdin4D 5.x & 6.0 will be shared with key programmers in the AROS, AmigaOS 4 & MorphOS communities. Money will be paid out to any major changes they make to the code for example adding a MUI interface, native MorphOS or AmigaOS 4 version. completing Aladdin 4D 6.0 for OS X Etc. Because of programmer issues Aladdin4D 5.x was taken off the market in October 2012. Aladdin4D will be available again as a Instant Download but any sales will go into the programmer pool to upgrade the software. When DiscreetFX acquired Aladdin4D the dream was to have a modern maintained beginners 3D animation/rendering package for AmigaOS,MorphOS & AROS. Hopefully the shared-source initiative can make that dream come alive.
We welcome your feedback to this change of plans and look forward to your feedback. We only want the best for Aladdin4D and it's installed customer base and fans.
Best regards
DiscreetFX Team

Shared source means not open to all but to certain developers after signing a cotract/NDA?

Thanx for the positive encouragement guys. I'm hoping to move beyond this flaky programmer bump in the road for Aladdin4D. This shared-source initiative should help AmigaOS/MorphOS/AROS programmers and no longer benefit those only pretending to do the work and not even on AmigaOS. I should have not waited so long to do this but I guess I'm a overly nice guy.

This sounds like a good initiative. Hopefully something that can be picked up by the Amiga porting team that Amigablitter has been assembling.
It'd be nice if a coordinated effort can be made between OS4, MorphOS an AROS devs.

This seems to be a really nice piece of 3D software, but Blender3D is already available for AOS4.x, is it worth?
Don't get me wrong, this is just a simple question.
Regards to all!

Competition is healthy for the community and I actually found Blender a little difficult to use.

That is good news :)

Blender is horrible to use, but very very powerful... Perhaps time would be better spent designing an Aladdin 4D style interface on to blender... I don't know ;) x

This is the most positive news I've yet heard. I really wish you good luck.
To the poster that commented that Blender was already available, yes, but this will run on Classic Amigas as well.
I may be the only current active Aladdin4d user...it would be fun to have an active community again.

Open to select developers is the definition of closed source. If you are not even open to any developer, that would be called no source ))) look its.fine to be closed.source. even fine to have some bizarre need to pretend- nothing new here. I wish them the best of luck. Report back when real news.
