Title: Ping...
Post by: Wayne on May 07, 2013, 01:34:25 PM
Good morning fellow Amiga sock enthusiasts.

Sorry, I know this is the wrong forum really, but I just wanted to pop my head up out of the rabbit hole to say "hey".  To see how everyone here's doing under the "now-not-so-new" site boss, and -- really -- just see if any of my old friends were still around.

Still wondering if Amiga equipment is off the rails expensive, or has dropped through the floor like Video Toasters did at one point.

Regards and best wishes...

Wayne

Just a whole different world.  Worked for the USAF for a while, then the USMC for about 19 months in Norfolk, VA, now I'm up near Washington D.C. and missing living in the United States very much...

Near Washington D.C., it seems that English is a second language and Americans are a severe minority, but I digress...  that's more of a coffee house subject...

I think about AO and you guys all the time, but never come here for fear of stirring up the drama queens and ending up causing even more controversy. :)

As for me, picked up bicycling. Bought a Trek Shift 4 the other day and I'm now commuting to work when I can..  Bicycling is very much Amiga-like in that you buy the main part -- in this case the bike -- then you spend years trying to buy all the tchotchke to make it your own.

When I made that connection in my head, Just wondered how you guys were doing and thought I'd check in.

Hi Wayne,

I'd say accelerators are still garnishing rather high prices, be they PPC or otherwise.

A CSPPC hit 1300 USD on Ebay with 5 bidders still fighting for it over the 1000 USD mark, if that's any indication.

Not a bad thread for catching up on pricing...

are we still sharing crazy ebay postings? (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=58540&highlight=CSPPC)

Hey Wayne,

Nice to see you pop in (and you should more often - you put a lot of work into this place regardless of whether you own it anymore), I tend to only lurk on A.org now that my amiga is relegated to the loft.

Good work on the bike, cycling is a great way to get to work and get fit.  Very jelous of that bike too, I'm still using a 20 year old Raleigh M-Trax, well the frame is 20 years old and it's had numerous new sets of wheels and chainsets!  Now I'm starting to sound like trigger from Only Fools and Horses.

Anyway, nice to see you pop in.

Oh Hai!  In the DC area now?  Fantastic, get a few more Amiga users in the area and maybe we can start up an old user's group again!  :)  #wishfulthinking

Speak of the devil, I was just pining for the old days on "the real Amiga.org" earlier today and wondered what you were up to.

RE: DC,  Isn't English a second language for all you colonials on the other side of the pond? ;)

Same with motorcycles :)

Who woulda thought ten years ago that today Lance Armstrong and I would have the same number of Tour de France wins?

I left my mountain bike out on my balcony for in the elements, so its needing new everything.

I ended up buying this single speed bike. There are not many hills around here, but I never considered a strong headwind. It would be very strange riding a bike with that coasts now.

http://www.criticalcycles.com/diamond-2/light-blue-frame-yellow-red-wheels.html

swapped out the seat, hand grips and pedals so far and installed water bottle and headlight.

Its great you can ride to work :) I might be able to do it once but there is a 50% chance I'd die on the way there, and 50% chance I'd die on the way home.

If I remember, the last time you were here Wayne, you stirred up the "Drama Queens" with some negative comments about our pastime.
But, still, it good to see you posting again.

BTW - Accelerators are through the roof, but some other equipment has become dirt cheap.
I bought an A2000 a few months ago for $45 (and yes, it does work).
A2000s are so common (and cheap) that i've been think of working oin a project with some Hiutachi 6309s to work on 8 bit software.

Why did you have to sell the place Wayne?  This place has gone right downhill since you did my friend.  Its like amigans.net these days with threads being locked or deleted frequently and halfwits posting stupid questions constantly.

It's no wonder half the members already left for EAB and A1K. :sigh:

And just because I can I'm posting my last reply to the latest locked thread here.

I think I opened a can of worms that is now not possible to close :insane: I think I can just conclude that in the end it is really a matter of preference. I will take that as a final answer to my original post question.

Some of us have used/do use all four platforms (Amiga, MorphOS, AROS and OS4) and can judge each one on its own merits without resorting to making up nonsense.

It's the religious purists of each persuasion that don't seem to be able to do so.

Examples please, we are very forgiving here and most of the time threads don't get locked or deleted. We use OS4, AROS & MorphOS too.

One of the threads you linked had trolls in it claiming to buy product and not getting it. While some in the thread were legitimate complaints that were resolved it also included trolls complaining about orders they never placed.

I disagree with you. There are many helpful threads here on aorg and a lot of classic users are helped. Its still a greet community. EAB isnt better than aorg

Let me see, EAB has people like Kalms, Piru, PeterK, Toni Wilen etc posting very interesting and technical posts.

You know, people with real knowledge and skills; this place has you.

1692 posts in 11 years and not one of them interesting*.

*I define "interesting" by the clear and unambiguous first paragraph above. Just so there is no confusion.

You dont need to be insulting. And I promise you i've done far more for the "Amiga" platform than you ever will. I'm not going to drop names or qualify to you if you dont know what i'm referring to i'm not going to tell you. So if you hate it so much here why are YOU here?

Just stating facts, if you are offended that the above mentioned people are more knowledgeable, thus more interesting than you are then that's your problem. I'm sorry you feel that way.

I'm seriously beginning to wonder that myself.  This place used to full of great posts and people, but then again I've been around since Wayne opened the place (Don't let the 'join date' on my profile fool you, I had 8000 posts on my old and now deleted account) and I don't see why I should leave due to *************. That and I actually like helping people with their Amiga conundrums.

Chill people. Every thread doesn't have to turn into a heated debate then to insults.

Oh, as to Wayne. He went to the ER this morning with chest pains. Turns out he has a clot in his left lung. He's not inpatient.  Must have been all that clean DC air cycling into work.

@nicholas

Your welcome to stay but personal attacks against the site owner will not be tolerated. Also, derailing an otherwise positive thread is not very constructive.

You are into all threads defending something and agaisnt something (like satanist avatars relate) really silly and boring.

@nicholas

Dont speak about the truth of this forum or you will be banned or another (useless) thread closed.

I haven't personally attacked anyone, I made a generalized comment voicing my concern that most of the very knowledgeable members have left the forum.

Quite how that is considered to be a "personal attack against the site owner" is a mystery to me, I don't even know who the site owner is.

If I were him/her I would be very concerned that the once popular site I own is hemorrhaging its knowledgeable members.  Once they have all gone what will be left????

Edit: Most importantly I'd ask myself why they have left and what can I do to prevent the few remaining knowledgeable members from leaving.

I'd also listen very carefully when they point out the problems with the forums.

@nicholas. Like crud your not attacking anyone. Has it occured to you that the reason people are leaving is because of obnoxious ****wits like you?  Magnetic is right. This is a good and useful website. There are always people willing to help other users. This place is great. If you don't like it, get lost.

Yeah Kesa vs Piru, no contest eh?

Please show me ONE post where you have bestowed your extensive knowledge upon us. Then go through my ~15000 posts over more than a decade and compare.
