Title: Help Me Test My BBS
Post by: Dmaster on May 05, 2013, 02:41:07 AM
Hello all.  I am, thanks to god a heart attack survivor.  I am currently at home on temp dissability and as anyone can guess very bored :)  I am trying to revive my old BBS system as a hobby to kill some time.  Can you please help me test if its working by telnet to : necrobbs.strangled.net   Thanks.  Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Doesn't work, as necrobbs.strangled.net resolves to 192.168.9.2

Hint: If your BBS server is at 192.168.9.2 on your LAN, you'll need to find out your WAN address, bind that address to necrobbs.strangeled.net at your dns host, then port-forward port 21 to 192.168.9.2:21 on your router/gateway

IP is unreachable, as it's an internal IP address via NAT.  Knock a hole in your router/firewall for the telnet port - looking forward to checking it out!

I am using CNet v5.07.  I guess I cannot do this.  I thought I could :)  I am using my cell phone connected to my computer via usb for internet connection.  I have to be able to forward ports on my cell phone. but Using the router address given I cannot do anything.  I have Tmobile network.  I am trying to find out if there is a way to forward.  I think I got the terms right :)  It's been a while.  I remember when I had comcast I was able to log into my router to do all this.  :)  Any suggestions?  Thanks all.

Yea cellphones, or mobile broadband connections does not genarlly offer a fixed IP and without that you'r stuck :(

The only way to get that to work would be to use a VPN connection service that offers a fixed IP at their end or switch to a more regular broadband connection.

10.x.x.x is still a private address space and not routable or accessable from the internet :( You need a VPN service that gives you a public IP adress, very few do but they exists.

Well, I took the plunge and ordered real internet service for my home.  With a real router so I can forward ports and everything.  Equipment should arrive by this weekend.  Stay tuned for my BBS to be back online.  Like I said just a hobby to kill time :)

Well, so far the BBS is working fine.  You can telnet to : necrobbs.strangled.net.  Are there any current or former CNet Amiga sysops that may be able to help me setup Newsgroups, Fidonet and E-mail on the system?  Any help would be greatly apreciated.  Thanks to all of you who have so far tried the system.

Been awhile since I ran Cnet fulltime, for the past year or two I've been running a custom setup for BBS software but I'm currently testing CNet 5.10h.

Will be in touch with you once I get a bit more familiar with it.

It's asking me a hell of a lot of questions, some I don't really want to answer :(

Not that I don't trust you with my home address and phone number, but, you know... I have a strict policy on this kind of thing.

:)  Yes I understand my friend.  I have to work on that.  You can always use a fake address and phone number for the time being since that does not really matter to me.  :)  I apologize for that.  But I am looking to find out how I can cut that down.  Thanks.

I did not even know they had 5.10h  :)  I have 5.10e but I am using 5.07.  Let me know your BBS info when you can my friend.

It got stuck in an endless loop asking for the area code and then local part of my phone number.

Sorry about that. Try again when you can and please let me know if it happens again.  Thank you.
