Title: NetSurf
Post by: radar103 on April 27, 2013, 10:55:15 AM
Hi,
I notice there is no download on the Netsurf website for the Amiga 0s 3.9 version of  Netsurf. I know this version is available as it comes with the latest Amikit updates. This should be available to other OS3.9 users to download. Please all contact NetSurf to try to get this download added.

It will not be added as it is considered a fork and is not supported by them.  When it stops using the framebuffer frontend this should change.

Picasso / CGX compatible graphic card.

You could always try the CGX AGA driver. It would probably be dog slow though.

68k version works fine as long as you don't resize the window... Picasso96 system here.

maybe a solution (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=885584#post885584)

Even if it works well it still won't be as good as a non-frame buffer build but this is probably the best hope for an AGA browser I think.

Thx :) I agree FB works best on AGA systems where screen refresh could be a hassle. But on RTG screens that suxx :(

To bad there are no decent 68k port of the Os4.0 browsers, I understand that it would not be that useful in most scenarios but on a fast 060 system or WinUAE I'd love to have a modern browser.

Facebook actually works really well on Netsurf 68k, that was impressive. Most sites work "ok" but the lack of a real JS engine makes most sites useless.

Wait a minute! Wait a minute! Are you saying we will have officially a NetSurf AGA soon??! One question! Say I decided to go to youtube.com. Would I be able to watch youtube video in NetSurf in my Amiga 1200 AGA??!

OK another question, how do I install SDL_AGA for my Amiga 1200 as well and where can I get NetSurf68k AGA?

That did not help as I don't care about AGA, sorry.

It is still SDL, but nova has made AGA comtipatiable SDL, so that framebuffer version can be used with AGA amigas. I still hope that Arthur can make native port of Netsurf.

But there is no way that real amiga could play youtube videos and at least this version woun't be "official" it still frambuffer and SDL. Has you seen any, even single one game or app that uses SDL wich is pleasure to play/use with real 68k amigas?

My biggest problem with 68k amigas, is that there is no way to download stuff from internet with OS3.X compatiable browsers. Currently I have solved it with my OS4 machine and NETFS. It is amaizingly fast, 250kb/s from OS4 to OS3.9, much faster than any other solution I have tested. SAMBA/AEplorer etc,

How about this game, I heard it uses SDL -> Descent Rebirth AGA (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=64821)

:)

No seriously though, you are right.   Web browsing on 68k's is always going to be limited and it would obviously be better to have a native port but nobody has managed it (yet) so an AGA SDL solution is better than nothing.

The only thing I want running in my Amiga 1200 AGA is this: http://aminet.net/package/game/role/Zelda3T-68k-US. Can you promise and say your AGA SDL will allow me to play this game in my Amiga 1200 AGA (without AN RTG or video card) and be running at the same speed as your AmiQuake 2?

SDL and 3D game are not exactly best way to compare performance, because you need to do 3D routines native anyway. Are you really using SDL for something else than debug? :D

Descent realistic minium is 040 40mhz, I would say that those 15mhz more over 25mhz makes game playable with 040, or at least earlier versions worked so.
