I currently have an Amiga 600. But I also have been lugging around 2 SCSI harddrives with some of my files on them. (13 years to be exact) I got a quote from Best Buy which was not only outrageous. But I doubt they could even do it. Is there a cheap solution to acquire this with out having to go out and buy an Amiga 2000. Thanks for your help !

Sure, go to your local amiga user group meetings.. (free) and ask for help
also and ide to scsi adaptor will do the trick (approx $80)

I guess you should be able to access the drive from winuae if you buy a cheap scsi card for your pc.

Possibly something like the Squirrel SCSI interface (plugs into your A600's PCMCIA slot and gives you a SCSI port) would work for retrieving your old files? You'd still need some kind of chassis to put the drives in that provides power, but you should be able to find one of these on ebay pretty cheap (many old Mac external drive cases should work, for example).

"Amiga user groups"? Ha, that's wishful thinking these days! ;)

+1 For getting a SCSI Card and Accessing the drive(s) With WinUAE, Though I've only used it with Compact Flash and IDE Drives, it is a breeze :-) Hopefully with SCSI Drives is more or less the same.

going for a SCSI interface for your PC is the easy/cheap solution. One thing to watch out for is 32 versus 64 bit OS.... older and dirt cheap SCSI cards often have no 64 bit driver. Use a 32 bit Linux VM if needed. Amiga FFS drivers are available for Linux

So, are you wanting the files moved to a compact flash card from the SCSI hard drives? What kind of drives are they, meaning, are they just the standard 50 pin internal connectors? I would be happy to hook the drives up to my A2000 and move them over to a compact flash for you, but, that would mean shipping me the drives and a CF card, and then hoping the drives would work with my setup. I don't know why it wouldn't, but there is always the possibility. I have two A2000s and an A500+, all with SCSI capability. Maybe there is someone not too far from you with an A2000 that wouldn't mind doing it for you. Let me know if you want me to try it for you.

Thanks for everyone's input and offer. Yes there 50 pin SCSI. One thing I kept running into was the multitude of different SCSI interfaces. A little confusing and even if I ordered (all would have to be ordered off line. K4lmp I would really appreciate that as I would have no use for the interface ever again if I did buy one and once I have the data I have no need for the drives. I think I may have a 500MB SCSI drive I will have to check but that has nothing on it so it's yours also as well as the drives ( they might make great boat anchors). I also have a ROM switcher I'm not using which may come in handy. You can send you details I will be in touch. Thanks again to everyone's help.

Just so you know man there are almost zero user groups left in the usa. Even the famed Atlanta group is defunct (and they were one of the biggest) I think nyc and CA are the only places left with amiga UGN at all. So not really a valid option

I don't mind a bit to do it for you. If you will send me the drives and a compact flash card, I will do my best to transfer them for you. I appreciate the offer of the drives and rom switcher, but you don't have to do that. I will be happy to ship the drives back to you when I'm finished. I have never used any CF cards over 2GB, so if you want to send me the drives, and a 2GB or smaller CF I will do my best and then ship everything back to you. It may not matter about the size of the CF, but I know there are limitations, and I have never used anything over 2GB in my setup, which you can see in my sig. I will send you my mailing address in a PM, and you can just let me know if you send it, so I will know to be watching for the package. One more thing, do you know if the drives are set up as DH0, and bootable? Just wondering, as it will affect how I would do it, but it still shouldn't be a problem. Let me know, and a PM is on the way.
Thanks
