This might be a bit of a "Clueless Newbie" question, but thats what I am atnthe moment :)
I have just built a Amithlon PC and it all works! sound, networking everything!
However some time ago I backed up my tatty A500 floppys to ADF format, and I would like to be able to use these on my Amithlon PC, can it be done?
Thanks in advance :-)

Only if you can get a 68k UAE to run on it I think.
Try thisLINK (http://www.rcdrummond.net/uae/)
What is your networking and sound hardware?

There are some Amiga utilities to allow you to mount ADF files as a floppy to access from the Workbench, this only works if it's a stardard format AmigaDOS disk. If it's games you want to play, that won't help much because they tend not to be standard format. However, a lot of HD installers for such games store the game on an ADF image on the drive and use a custom loader, you should be able to get those working.

Thanks for the link I will have a look.
I have Soundblaster 128 and the network card has RTL 8139 chip on it I used the openPCI drivers on it, could not get it to work with Genesis but Miami did the trick :)
It's an old PIII 500 with 320mb two 10gb HD's and a RIVA TNT2 graphics card. I used a small boot partition with MSDOS & LoadLin to boot it.
The system runs really well. It will do me until I can get a new "real" Amiga ;)

Short answer is yes I do it now.
ou will needed acouple of programs from Aminet.
FMS (creates fake floppies and a program called ADF2FMS.
It works fine on my system. The problem you might have is moving them to your new Amithlon PC. ADF file sizes ar about 900. But if you can emailothem to your self or attach an Amiga formated harddrive (non bootable) and it will come up under Amithlon if it is attached to a supported SCSI controler.

you might want to give AROS a whirl on it in the mean time too...

FMS and ADF2FMS did the trick.
Nice one thanks, I can transfer the file via my PC as the network card work fine on the Amithlon PC.
:)

Umm as you might well have discovered by now, most of your A500 software would be for OCS/ECS. Amithlon has no custom chip emulation ie it is basically an RTG-only Amiga. So none of your A500 games that use the native chips will run. You should run UAE for this software.
-
I don't have many games, and have not tried to run any, but I will take your point on board :)
I have Amiga Forever on my PC.
I manliy wanted to run Photogenics and ImageFX,
I have Photogenics running, but have not given it a good try-out yet.
The only thing I will be using, really will be workbench stuff.
I have a lot of AGA software as well as I used to have an as well A1200 (wish I still did!). At least I know now not to bother trying that! :-D

Yes thats true, the openpci drivers for the 8139 are currently not working with genesis.
you can try the Linux based 8139 driver from the Contrib3b package...that works pretty much better than the OpenPCI stuff, way faster, more stable and compatible with genesis.
but keep your hands off the sound drivers forom Contrib3b, they suck.
I use XFS to mount an ADF, you can even mount an UAE-Hardfile. Its easy to use and install.

Thanks, I will look at XFS later :)

I use all my ADF files with UAE (Running on Amithlon).
Othervise you can mount them with diskfile.device.
Enjoy your Amithlon.
