I have not tried one, has anyone else? They are not cheap but...

Here is an article specific to using the mini framemeister with the Amiga:
http://www.videogameperfection.com/av-gear/xrgb-mini-framemeister-a-pal-torture-test/
And best of all it's specifically about using PAL machines and software with it since that's important in the Amiga ecosphere.
Notes:
Slow switching between interlaced and non interlaced screens
I personally wish someone would develop a new external Amiga Scandoubler/flickerfixer. I realize the image quality might not be as good as internal units, but convenience and the ability to move it from machine to machine would be huge.
-
Why not just use an LCD TV with an RGB to SCART cable?
It's cheap and it does the job nicely.

I would...if I lived in Euroland.
I have actually thought about importing a UK LCD TV just for this reason.

Ditto, hey another Ohioan!

Isn't everything made in China these days and even the cheapest Chinese LCD TV's one can find in the UK come with 50/60Hz support and SCART/UHF Coax/HDMI inputs.
Surely they don't make two separate models for each market anymore?

Us folks in the States get screwed.
No Scart and many of our sets either won't sync to 50Hz or if they do, they internal up sample to 60Hz making for jerky scrolling in Euro game and demos.

:(
Just found this 19" widescreen HDTV on fleabay:

Video Signal TV, DTV, SCART, CVBS, S-VIDEO, YPBPR, VGA, HDMI, USB
There are millions more like it for similar prices.
-
It might be even cheaper for you to import from one of the South American countries that use PAL like Brazil or Argentina etc.
-
It would be better to have things work properly on a monitor I actually own or want to own. I already have a hard enough time finding monitors with acceptable latency without having to worry about PAL support..

You are missing the point entirely.
LCD TV's support both PAL and NTSC at 50Hz and 60Hz. Models sold in the EMEA region also have a SCART connector that makes hooking up an Amiga easy and flicker-free. Models sold outside EMEA do not.

So that puppy in your Ebay link can handle any Amiga screen mode you throw at it pretty much?

Pretty much yeah.
I bought a crappy "Goodmans" 15" LCD TV in 2005 that has VGA/SCART/Composite/UHF/S-Video inputs and it takes every AGA screenmode my old A1200 ever spat at it, so the newer ones should be just as good if not better.

I ran my stock A1200 for over a year back in 92 with an RGB->VGA cable in DblPal mode before I bought a 1960 Multisync monitor. :)

Me, seeing as I made it.

You quoted something I said and then made a completely tangential response.
I don't really care what your point is.

Looks awesome. Has an impressive amount of ports and plugs :)
-
Looks kinda expensive to be a good alternative to Indivision.
Unless you found one at much better price.
-
That it is.

I quoted your reply to my initial point.

The fact you keep going to the trouble of replying to me proves otherwise. Next!

Because it doesn't does the job nicely. Jerky scrolling, 'softened' picture and comb-effects is what you get.

It's not perfect by any means but it's better than nowt. :)

Sure thing, an amiga gathering dust is sacrilege! Personally I have a 1084s for my miggies but I am considering an x-rgb... not sure though, I want to get the max out of my Amigas, so is that when I hook it up to my 20" sony crt or is the raw original the best way to experience Amiga 500/1200 games?

I've got a 1084 still around that I bought a couple of years ago, but for me to get the authentic late 80's feeling back I'd have to go to and find a crappy old CRT TV-set that blurs the pixels for that retro 82^16xFSAA effect like I had when I was a kid. :)
Has gens sold out of Indivsions btw?

Well, my memories of the Amiga is the Amiga of my cousins, with which they had hooked on a 1084, so I guess I'll stich with the 1084 :)

I don't know, a quick look on the Vesalia.de website shows that the AGA model has sold out though.
I've thought about the Indivision, but I have hooked up more than an Amiga to my 1084 so that rules the Indivision out.

DHL delivered a Framemeister to my house today from Solaris in Japan; it took 31 days... Now who at my house would have ordered something like that?
Spent an hour soldering/converting its JP-21 connector into a SCART to 8-pin mini din connector and after testing each pin connection thoroughly, plugged it into my work-in-progress A4000 to make sure all is well in the retro world. Trial and error on the Japanese (kanji?) menus got me a sharp picture, although color saturation was a tad off. Next step is to update the 1.08 firmware with 1.11 in English; also bought the 9 buck overlay for the remote off icBay, so that is a great help.
Of note, while there is no English translation of the manual accompanying the device, but all the plastic bags were labeled in English and French as hazards to young children. This begs several questions: do Japanese children not choke or suffocate on plastic bags as do the English and French speaking children? Are the latter more litigious than the Japanese? Do the Japanese learn English or French to protect their children? Since none of the bags are large enough to fit a baseball, does this imply that westerners have microcephally and are at risk, compared to the normocephallic Japanese? I'm sure inquiring mind want to know!

Ha, great review, Dan. Isn't the Framemeister that $300 thing? You'd think for that kind of money they could at least provide English instructions? Or maybe I'm a bit biased since I know the entire world doesn't have English as it's first language. ;) Either way, so this thing requires soldering to be usuable on an Amiga? I hope everyone on that other 100+ comment long thread knows that! I just hate to see such an expensive solution being recommended to folks, when it's obviously not "plug and play", and maybe not everyone has the skills to solder and tune it like you do.
Oh well, I still say if they don't just get Indivisions, they're asking for trouble. ;)

The rgb input is a Japanese 21-pin connector that ends in an 8-pin mini din. The 21-pin connector is the same design as SCART, but the pinout is different. I found a hardwired cable online where someone has made the same modifications, but what's the fun in that.
Actually, Santa probably didn't pay retail (it was a gift) for the Xmas holiday season.
My post is not a review, as there are several excellent ones on the web.

No scart in NZ anymore, unless you can find an old Euro branded CRT. There are scart to rca/component about though.
Isssue with old CRTs are that they are on their last legs and I've had a couple die. Good thing they're cheap.
Scart does produce a nice picture, a little better than scart is Amigamaniacs rgb to svideo adapter. Kipper2 makes a similar version of this which he sells through Amibay or his website.
Both options a lot cheaper than $300....the adapter cost me $20. However after using an Indi both on the 500 and 1200 I wouldn't bother with the other options. The picture of the Indi is amazing.

Yes, I have a couple of $230 USD Indivisions for my 4000's (a $160 for my A4000T), and one $110 Indy ECS in my A2000 and they are great! So I guess I need to buy more or just pop one out every time I set up another Amiga; good idea...

That's what I would do, yes. And quit f***ing around with these half-assed solutions. ;)
C'mon Dan, we know you're made of money! Didn't you say in another post just a few days ago that you pull hundred dollar bills out of thin air?

Didn't Dan just spend $300? If money was the issue buy an svideo adapter from Kipper2 ;)

S-Video, composite and component are dead technologies, right up there with Beta Max.
Conversion is the opiate of the masses, before Democracy and religion. When "Rust Never Sleeps," it is "Better to burn out then fade away."
[Also I've been into Amiga stuff since 1986 and Commodore 8-bit since 1982; also I just sold a refurbed A4000 with CS MK2 and Indivision AGA before X-mas for a reasonably large sum]
