Title: Blizzard A1260 in a wedge?

Is it unadvisable to use a Blizzard A1260 (without SCSI module attached) in an Amiga 1200 that's not towered?

Mine gets hot so I run it with no trapdoor but I don't have any stability issues. I think some are designed for towers and some are for wedgies but if there is more difference other than the protuding SIMM slot I don't know?

The only problem I actually know about is the electricity problem.

Your question should be:
Is it unadvisable to use a Blizzard A1260 (without SCSI module attached) in an Amiga 1200 with the original A1200 powersupply?

The answer to that question is:
Yes it is undadvisable.  It just isn't worth the risk of damaging things.

People use Towers to solve 3 problems all at the same time.
1. Space.
2. Electric Voltage Supply.
3. Heat dissipation.

Its doable, Ive been using my 1260 in the wedge for years with out problems.

I use a blizzard 1260 on desktop and blizzard 1230 gets hotter.

Are you using the original A1200 power supply?

Or did you cheat and plug in your beefy A500 power supply? :pint:

Mine runs find in a desktop @ 80Mhz and as an added bonus we no longer need to turn the heating on which saves us lots of money.

Just make sure you take the trap door off and throw it out of the window.

I really dont know what you are basing these statements on.. Of course you can run a Blizz 1260 in a desktop a1200 case with the org psu. As a matter of fact, an 060 takes LESS power than an 030! Also a stock 060@50mhz runs pretty cool imho.

I have the same card and it gets bloody hot (the CPU)...no doubt about that. Depends what revision the 060 is. Mine is a revision 1, crappy mask job, also running at standard 50MHz.
I have the SCSI module as well to get the extra ram (256MB). You're concern is heat and that's understandable. You can run it in a wedge case even with SCSI module, but you'll need to fan cool the cpu. Although the cpu is designed to run as hot as a frying pan without a fan and without self destructing, it surely is desirable to cool it the best you can. This will increase the life of the cpu, the cpu card, and it will also mean less of a strain on the power supply and A1200 main board (more heat=more current drawn....which strains circuit traces).
