Title: Amikit on Real Amiga Support Thread
Post by: magnetic on February 01, 2013, 11:58:22 PM
Hey retrofan and fellow amigans i opened this thread to continue the discussion of the cool Amikit on real amiga project. Since the news item is off the main page i started a new thread here is the last quote:

Quote
Hi:
1) Fitzsteve already made that:

Well done mate on a great conversion :great

2) It uses around 450 Mb. I've got 700 Mb in my bootable partition.

3) Edit: Sorry but it seems no. Wait till I fix this, but it seems there is a problem with extracting the zip file and keeping the atributes of the files. You only can make this if you first unpack the files on your pc (to your pcmcia for example). I will fix that with another file lha and an script:

EDIT:Thomas has helped me making an installation without emulation with a simple script, so you won't have to be using but the partition from where you are booting with OS39 and you only will have to click on an icon. I hope this will be soon ready to download and use it if I get this working.

I'm looking forward to trying this one day. I confess to never even trying Amikit on UAE yet, but looking at the screen shots I think I'm gonna like it. ;)

Yeah, I either run real amigas or use my peg2 for amiga stuff so dont use UAE on my pcs much. Nothing like the real thing. Especially with the MK2 and the new modes..

I'm dying to use Amikit for classics but they are still working out some glitches. I really would love an 060 fpu version though!

It's pretty easy: The installation instructions say clearly that you have to make the installation with emulation, with links to WinUAE and so. In the edit I even woudn't have to post "fix this", as it isn't announced to work other way, never was; but as I told you I'm working to making things easy, and I already have a "kit" to make the installation without emulation and it will be released very very soon.

Anyway you could have asked me to open here a Support Thread .

Ok awesome, just trying to help. Dont forget FPU version ;)

Yes, but versions for 040 FPU, 060 FPU, Apollos (with RemApollo)? I can't make a program for each accelerator. It is not only the libraries but the programs (Utilities, Internet) too

This works in all of them. But I would like to make someday a FPU version for my 060 too.

I hope magnetic that you haven't missed the new installer, updated to 02. Now you can make the install on your miggy and you don't need WinUAE anymore...

Just read the new installation instructions. Basically you just make click on an script and it installs it...

Hey Retro
RE exploring this thread as the new .3 version is out which I installed no problem. But having some issues because of my initial install. Its mainly to do with the Color/Palette mapping something is screwed up. can you tell me what programs I need to reinstall to get the palettes working correctly?

For anyone with an a1200 030 YOU REALLY NEED TO TRY THIS its awesome and breathes new life in your amiga. Retro has done an awesome job with the Amikit adaption for real amiga and the installer that is simple to use and nice online updating!

Thank you magnetic. Well, it's hard to know what you've got wrong, so perhaps the easy way is if you reinstall again the pack over it.

Edit: I've posted the release of the 0.3 version in News.

Do I need an RTG to use amikit on a real amiga ?

Amikit, I'm looking to purchase an A1200 with either an 030 or 040 processor and a internal scan doubler with a 32Gb sd card for a hard drive and PCMCIA wireless network card and if possible USB.  Do you by any chance sell the NTSC version from commodore in very good condition with a US KEYBOARD?  I live in the U.S.

All of this does not have to be done all at once, but would really like to have the commodore  version of the A1200, if not then the amiga technologies model.

Any old new stock?

No, it runs with just a 030 without FPU. The thing is that some people want to run it just with that and anothers want to use a B1260. If you want to use a taskbar here you can use for example Workbench 2000 with the first and AmiStart with the second. Of course both run with both cards, just tooo slow AmiStart with just a 030, so you have WB2000.

If you want to use a 060 you will have to download the drivers from phase5 as they are copyrighted.

You are confusing AmiKit and Amigakit.

Libs for 680x0/020/030/040/060:

http://aminet.net/package/util/libs/MMULib

They are better than P5's 040/060 libs too.

Warpiper

NO amigaikit does NOT have NTSC units for sale. You will have to find a used one in the usa.  This thread is about Amikit not Amigkit btw :)

So does this replace the 68040.library and 68060.libraries in Libs?

And cyberpatcher?

Yes, it uses the MMU so won't work with UAE JIT.  It should work with the new MMU emulation in WinUAE though.

Well I managed to get amikit installed on my real amiga, but when I restarted my amiga it says "please insert amikit in any drive" ?

Is there any way of fixing this?

You have to rename your partition name to "Amikit" you can also from a shell window type: ASSIGN Amikit: to yourpartition:

Make sure you have no other programs running when you use/save the Screenmode settings.  eg Shell, Ed etc...

Hey nicholas

What makes these libs better? I'm always looking for improving the 060 in my 1200.

They are part of the wider MMU tools package which provide lots of extra functionality.  They have less bugs and perform better too which is always a bonus. :)

ps Sorry for having a go at you the other day, I was pissed off and took it out on the wrong person.

Simplest way is to boot your machine, delete the Phase 5 libs and Cyberpatcher etc, install the MMULib archive then MuRedox, then reboot.

I have Matthey"s CopyMem.060 and TLSFMem too.

Sorry if I'm not so often here as in EAB, but I spend all my time trying to improve the next update. To start it will have the MMULib (thanks for the tip, nicholas), as I have the permission. You can use now for example a 060 with WinUAE (I can't test it for real with that). @Carvedeye you were saying "Intuition is attempting to reset the workbench. please close all windows except drawers" . The thing is that you have to reset AmiKit to change the screen mode or amount of colors. Also perhaps you are trying it under WinUAE and you haven't selected right the size of the screen (Display, full screen...).

And now to the point:

I've created (WIP) somekind of taskbar (yes, now you'll have 3 to choose) using TinyMeter and joining a menu with Magellan. This Taskbar will only be for Magellan users because of the Start Menu. Yes I could do also just a TinyMeter taskbar, but it woudn't give me the menus the Magellan Start menu does, and also the AmiKit Eye icon looks better using it.

I'm making an script to install it, but as I must change the position of the bar for the different screen modes, I want to know what screen modes you are using/want. Actually I've made 3 options to choose with the installer: Pal High Res Laced, SuperPlus and HighGFX.

Look:

For the Taskbar background I'm using an image of jPV, that also made a great taskbar time ago and has inspired me.

It can be partially transparent too:

My purpose is not making just my own taskbar, but to make the fastest one with nice graphics.

I'm waiting to know if you want any other screenmode supported, also betatesters (real machine) are welcomed and needed.

I've done a couple of wallpapers more:

Although HighGFX and 256 colors is a bit too much for the ram (doesn't it seem I am using a Gfx Card and 24M colors?). I've got them also remapped to 16 colors in another drawer, and they look nice too because these images need few colors.

I've got to say that there was a problem with the 03 version updater, and also with the full install. The Pcmcia wasn't working right. You can go to AmiKit: Devs/DosDrivers/CF0, and edit the icon information of CF0. It must be Activate=1 instead of 0.  If you had the Pcmcia drivers already installed  they are ok, as my installer didn't overwrite them in that case.
Also the updater from the 02 version had a problem, so you will have to download and run it again, so sorry for the inconveniences.

Anyway in a couple of days both archives; Full install and 03Beta Updater will be fixed from the site.

EDIT: Please Magnetic empty your incoming PM's again :D . I need some betatester for the 04.

The other day I was reading some posts on the "http://eab.abime.net/retrogaming-general-discussion/3013-what-does-your-real-amiga-wb-look-like-35.html (http://eab.abime.net/retrogaming-general-discussion/3013-what-does-your-real-amiga-wb-look-like-35.html)" thread and I liked a lot the screenshot of Mad-Matt (thanks mate). Later we knew they were icons from Mattahan.

I was thinking to use those great icons and then @slaapliedje said:

Quote from: slaapliedje;899942

Hmmm, so who wants to make a pretty installer for it?  :D

slaapliedje

So... I've made the prettiest for AmiKit Real :D:

And now I've got a "Beta" installer, but listen:

- Those icons weren't made for Amiga. They aren't dual Png, just Png's converted one by one...
- As they weren't made for it, I can't invent icons that don't exist... Anyway I've created some using just two of them (some drawers), and used others (well, all) under my "point of view".
- AmiKit Real has 8.256 icons, so, appart that this has taked me a complete week, not all of the icons are converted.
- The idea if this is "approved" is to use it as an add-on. Actually it should be installed over AmiKit Real 04 version (still not uploaded, so still Beta). I've got the permission from Mattahan. Thanks a lot :bowdown
- I've implemented those icons also for my new and fast (04 update) magellan bar, but not for AmiStart or Workbench2000.
- You can Restore your original icons with my Installer, but the install takes around 20 mins.

So, if you want to betatest it send me a Pm and I will send you the 04Beta, update 04 and the Icons Installer.

Hope you'll like it ;)
