Hi All,
I am getting back into the Amiga since the late 80s/early 90s. I currently have an Amiga 2000 with a PAL motherboard on its way (current motherboard is shot - battery acid over the bottom 1/4 of the board). Anyway, while I am waiting on it, is there any way of networking the Amiga 2000? Currently I only have a serial port and I possible could hook it up null modem to it. However, I wanted to do real networking. It has a G-Force 030/40 with 4 Megs of Flash ram and 1 meg of chip ram. I saw someone on e-bay selling a ISA network card attached to a bridge card and the only other one I could find is one off e-bay cost $267 USD+shipping. Wow! That one was only coaxial, thou. I went on amigakit but all I could find were PCI network cards.
Any help would be appropriated.

Any of these cards should work: http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/search.pl?product=&company=&amiga=2000&intf=&cat=eth&mid=&base=dec&pid=

Oh man, I just sold two A2065's really cheap :(

Remember, that $267 USD+shipping is asking price (buy it now) and know one has bought it yet.
I did e-bay search for the ones amiman99 told me about.
Amiga (AmigaNet,A2065,A4066,ANet,Ariadne,Ariadne II,AriadneII,Ariadne2,ConneXion,IOBlix,EB920,QuickNet,X-Surf,XSurf,XSurf2,X-Surf-2)
besides the $267 USD+shipping one, I saw the IOBlix come up but it appears not to have the ethernet daughtercard attached. Oh well.
Thanks for the help, I'll keep on checking e-bay and amibay. I would prefer to get it off of amibay.
Anyway, I was over at Individual Computers and saw something that might work. A500/A1000 Clockport (http://www.jschoenfeld.com/products/a500clk_e.htm). Just wondering why it is not for the A2000. Just starting out (again) so not sure why it wouldn't be compatible. Possible attachment to another chip (CIA) or something? I know I would have to get something to attach to the clockport but getting that port seems to really open the horizons on expansions.

Get a net card and easy net from amiga kit, I used out on my 1200 and 2000, it works really well

What card did you get from AmigaKit? I went there under networking and only shows PCI network cards and PCMCIA network cards. I don't see any for sale for zorro slots.
-
He's probably talking about PCMCIA network card which are for A600/A1200.
-
Remaining options:
* Extortion-bay
* Make PCB and solder
* Being lucky..
-
A PC ISA nic via Bridgeboard is also an option:-

I bought Easy Net from amigakit.
For my A2K i use a Hydranet NIC
For my A1200 I use 3 PCMCIA 3com NIC, I use Easy Net for both machines.
Next thing for me to try is a Mediator with a NIC, but I still need to aquire a Mediator though.

I'm sorry to clarify this thread, but to connect to the Internet from an A2000 you:
1) Cannot use a Mediator.
2) Can use a modem (slowest)
3) Can use a Lantronics Serial-to-Ethernet device (slow)
4) Can use an ISDN device such as "ISDN Surfer" with the right ISDN line from phone company
5) Can use the ISDN Surfer's clock port to connect to a Subway USB device then to a USB Ethernet dongle
6) Can use a Thylacine card in reproduction mode to get another USB solution
7) Can use a Zorro II card -- A2060, A2065, Hydranet, or X-Surf
8) Can in theory connect a serial/parallel cable to a PC with Internet access (slow)
9) Can use a BridgeBoard plus ISA card
The two USB options are reasonably fast, but you will have a hard time finding a Subway; you can put in for a Thylacine with Genny Flick on Amibay. You find ZII cards for sale on occasion (some are reasonable in price). The Lantronics takes some help (look for Heather -- Skydiving Girl -- on Amibay) and max out at 230K transfer speed. The 10Base2 only cards are cheap, but unless you own a 10Base2 router you need a 80 buck converter plus cable, t-pieces and 50 Ohm terminators as the are all BNC connected (British Naval Connection = BNC = Coaxial cable); this solution runs the total cost toward $200. The USB solution includes other very expensive and hard to find cards: Deneb, Algor and such.
The quickest way would be to find out if your phone company has ISDN and if so, get a ISDN Surfer from Vesalia -- 65 bucks. If you want to try Lantronix or 10Base2, PM me.

@danbeaver,
You forgot #10!
10) Install a DKB WildFire060 card in your A2000 for the *FASTEST* , bar none, way to connect your A2000 since the card is the only way to have an A2000 with a 100 MPS connection to the 'net.
I've got one.

"DEC Tulip 21040, the only Ethernet controller in Amigas that DMAs directly into fast 32 bit memory"
However it seems limited to 10Base-T which would limit speed to 10 Mbit/s....

Sorry, I'll just pop over to my local WalMart and pick up a #10.
I have a Mediator with RTL8139 & RTL8029, a modem, a Lantronix, 2X Deneb, a Thylacine, Algor, Subway, 2X A2065, a HydraNet, an ISDN Surfer, an X-Surf, a ParNet, and a Null-modem cable. I gave up on BridgeBoards years ago, and have never bothered to look for the DKB card since they are rare beasts -- like unicorns!:kitty:
The RTL8139 can run at 100Mbs, a USB dongle up to 480Mbs, and everything else (except your unicorn) runs at 10Mbs. Mind you my ISP limits me to 12 Mbs for which I pay near $60 a month. For $119 I can go up to 30Mbs (with the wind behind my sails, my neighbors not at home, and at 3 am).

Make your own Z3 100Base-T card ;)
Hard, but at least not a unicorn..

Using a serial null-modem cable linked to a PC running Multilink isn't as slow as you'd think. At least the difference in noticeable speed is negligible. For things like IRC it's perfectly fast enough, and for web browsing the speed isn't much different because you still have to wait most of the time for the images and pages to decode with the slow CPU. I use many Amigas online using various setups and I recommend you try using this method first before shelling out for a rare network card.

Wow! Thanks guys! :) Now, it looks like I am going to have to save up for it. I do have a 030/40Mhz board with 8 megs of fast ram. Not to shabby but after seeing specs on a 4000 with a 060 running 128 Megs I just lump down in my chair. Oh well. I'll see what I can do.
