Title: Amazon.com now selling Dave Haynie's Deathbed Vigil video
Post by: RobertB on January 28, 2013, 05:23:12 AM
Now available from Amazon.com as NTSC DVD is Dave Haynie's movie about the final days at Commodore Business Machines, "The Deathbed Vigil and Other Tales of Digital Angst".  Previously available from him at http://www.frogpondmedia.com/dbv/index.html and on Cloanto's Amiga Forever DVD, the Deathbed Vigil gives insight into scenes behind CBM.  Here is a brief message from Dave --

From: Dave Haynie via Facebook

Now available on Amazon.com: The Deathbed Vigil and other tales of digital angst. This is my "home movie" about the days leading up to the Commodore bankruptcy. A "must" for any Amiga or Commodore fan :-)

Personally, I wouldn't pay for anything that puts money in Haynie's hands.

Why? What did he do?

The guy is a legend.

I know this borders on violating the term of service, but personally I think Haynie is an ****.
He's repeatedly made unsupported insinuations about Ralph Schmidt's personal integrity.
Further, since Amiga, he's done nothing of serious worth.

Haha I totally missed the original thread.  As I just said in it, I did turn 30 not long ago so I guess it happens!

Define "serious worth".  Are you watching everything he does over his shoulder, or something?

Didn't take long for the trolling to show up in this thread!  :-/

This is hardly trolling.
Its a valid opinion.
And the man's work history is easily available online.
If you don't agree with my opinion, TS.

I'm no fan of Haynie and couldn't give a rat's behind as to what you care to characterize that opinion as.
Further, your input is little more then a flame.
My mention of Haynie's past slurs is a valid complaint (like it or not).

@Iggy

just so everyone understands where you're coming from, can you find a link to that thread on morphzone.org that details the haynie vs MOS antagonism for folks here? i can't seem to find it. they may not know what you're talking about and it could provide some background for your feelings on dave.

@thread

guys, please keep the discussion civilized. dave's comments about MOS are controversial to be sure, and folks have strong feelings about him one way or another. but remember, we're all (supposed to be) friends around here. ;)

Thanks eliyahu for having patience with me and not shutting me down in the first place.
I'll try to remain polite.
I think I can find Piru's last complaint somewhere.
I'll be back to edit this momentarily.

This video is a must-have! It puts faces to all the names we remember from the BBS days and early Aminet. The stories they tell are informative and funny.

There was a lot of incredible talent and passion under one roof at Commodore. Such a shame that it only took 2 or 3 high-powered nitwits to ruin it all.

So borrow it from a friend, because Haynie hardly deserves cash for something he shot while employed by Commodore.

Or look for a public source for it.

I bought it years ago and I'm damn proud of it.

If you want to personally blacklist Dave because you think some ill-informed comments he made about developments in a scene that he's recently been involved with only peripherally with outweigh the immeasurable good he's done for the Amiga over the decades, that's your business. But please don't bring up ancient battles in a thread about about a product that he's produced, made available, and for which he has every right to expect reasonable monetary compensation.

Hi, well done Mr Haynie for releasing the history of Commodore Amiga, I found the footage interesting, the version I have is with the Amiga Forever Premium Edition 2006 which included the CD for Amiga Forever then the two DVDs of the videos and other files.

Well worth the investment

Well, another topic gone off-topic by a MOS fan.
