Title: Amiga 2000 Battery
Post by: mistermsk on January 25, 2013, 08:22:19 PM
I am working on cleaning a board that had a battery leak all over it. Just for my sanity, will an Amiga 2000 motherboard work without the battery installed? I am will it boot up? I am trying to make sure all the acid is off but I am not sure if I have to replace the battery 1st or if I can test without one. Also, what type of battery can I replace it with (values, etc...) considering the one that was leaking I can't make out the values?

Yes it will work just fine. afaik A3000 is the only amiga that uses the battery to store anything else than the clock.

I removed the battery out of a A1500 and it worked fine. I'd use one of these http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1093

You could probably get a cheaper solution, but it's a guaranteed drop in replacement & it ought not leak again. It's not rechargeable so when the coin cell runs out you will need to put a new one in there.
