Years ago I started collecting parts to put together a GB1000 board but one never came on the market.
Are the original eagle files still available for the 030 version? I understand the author did a 060 improved version for which he won't release the files. I'm guessing this is down to someone dumping a load of his files on Aminet.
The alternative is to do my own based around an ATX format but that would take some time as apposed to doing a new run of his fantastic board. Just wondering what you guys know before I approach the rather clever chap that designed these.
-
I'd never heard of this board before reading this thread, I did some Googling and found this link:
http://www.illuwatar.se/project_pages/gba1000/gba1000.htm
It's a very interesting project.
-
The biggest pain in the arse is that the one of the builders made a website and its since been removed. The schematics are great it's just that eagle file that's needed.
-
I could be wrong but I thought Mechy might have been working on one of these.

The files are not publicly available. I'm aware there were 30-50 GB1000 boards produced by the efforts member Kristian95 back in mid 2008 with permission from Georg. You might send Kristain95 a PM and see if he can help further, but I see he hasn't logged in here in over a year now.
This is just my own opinion, but I don't think Georg appreciated all the attention and questions he was getting over this project and didn't want a flood of more people looking for support if large numbers of boards were made.
Ah, here we go. This tells much of the tale.....

Yes PJM are right, Georg Braun made a new one, with a 060 socketed directly on the motherboard.
-
The files were hosted on a dedicated gb1000 website which is gone. I'll contact the original group buy organiser.
-
I have two boards that I purchased when Kristian95 produced them in sept 2008. After getting them and reading what was required I realized I did not have the skills to gather all the parts and put it together myself. I paid 75.96 for the pair including shipping. I'd love to put them in the hands of someone that would actually build them. $85 for the pair or $50 for one (shipping included.)

Interested in one as well
Thanks

I'm not sure the files were hosted there. I looked once and they were not, the website owner seemed not able to get them at that point.

Link to pix?? I'd love to see... His website only seems to show the 030 motherboard and 060 turbo card.

Just go on a1k.org and in the A1000/Phoneix forum where you will find the latest 060 boards arriving. Typical a couple of boards become available in my thread whilst I'm asleep! I could really use one to study if I have to design my own board. If that happens then it will be more likely a2000 based or ATX depending on preference.
-
Hi guys,
It looks like PJM is interested in a GB1000 but he might have missed out on one offered by bwperez. It would be a nice gesture if he could be given a chance to get one, if he hadn't started the thread there probably wouldn't have been the offer by bwperez.
-
Id be interested in one of these boards as well. Its quite stunning that the original guy wont give out the specs/docs I mean this is an Amiga project. It should be about the community. This board could maybe be produced in a small number and revitalize some part of the classic market.
-
PJM gets one board since he started the thread and klx300r gets the other for being first.
If PJM designs and produces an A2000 version I'll buy a couple of those. They will again end up in storage when I realize I still don't have the time or skills to put them together. 5 years later when someone is looking for one of those to help design an A3000 version I'll have them ready.
I'll find them in storage and send details this weekend.
-
You make me laugh. This board will help with the A2000 board which is sounding more and more like a good idea. Thanks for offering this :)

You need to open the rev. 5 file and look in the pdf files, they are pretty well hidden, but they are there.

We now have permission to make revision 4 of the board. Things are starting to come together on eab.

Here is a picture from the 060 version. I am in work to build it.

An 030 revision of an A2000 board would be awesome. I'd buy one yesterday.

Nice, so it is working! Did the final cost of the parts came out as is shown in the price list or it was cheaper? I'm looking at the cost of the parts and it's a little bit cost prohibited (expensive).
-
The parts (without PCB) have cost arrounf 200 Euro. All parts (some original Amiga parts too) i have bought new.
The 060er version is a little bit expensiver, i have paid for the parts around 270 Euro (without PCB - this have cost 75 Euro)

Cool :)

many thanks as I have a spare A1000 MB that i can scavenge parts from..err actually just remembered i have an A500 MB board which is alot more sarcificeable for this project :-)

I was hoping for some A2000 accelerator love from jens, but I gave up waiting and sold it on.

That is awesome. I would like to purchase one. Are you organizing this? I am banned from EAB and cant post or login.. :(
-
Kipper on eab is getting quotes and I'm doing the same, basically whoever gets the best quotes with do the order and distribute.
When customers are taken I'm sure an email to whoeve is doing the order will suffice.

Well done. If affordable, I'd like one also.

Please guys, if you're serious about a redesign, please design it into an ATX form factor. The GB board doesn't really bring any added benefit to the A2000 - you can easily expand the real A2000 to the same spec.
-
Yes atx would be great :-)
-
Well once this order is done I could adapt the gba1000 to an ATX format if it fits. It may require an extended ATX format.
-
Well if you do make an ATX size, then count me in.
Also, maybe consider integrating the Thylacine USB controller on the mobo.
If possible, then add some active ISA slots inline with the Zorro as well.
-
Figures. :-) I dig through storage to find the boards from '08 and only come up with one (coulnd't find the second one.) I come back to Amiga.org to report my findings and realize my boards may no longer be needed since there is a new batch being run. :-) I should pass on this round unless someone is going to sell full sets of parts needed (I have the amiga chips) or a fully populated board.

Why not ATX format with the AGA chipset, an '060, and a few PCI slots?
That would be the ultimate.
-
I'd be all over this if it had an ethernet and USB option.
I'm not much of a gamer, Amiga wise. I'd kill for an ATX form factor GB1000 variant with Ethernet and some form of USB options, and SATA wouldn't hurt at all either, but that's a hell of a lot to ask, heh.

PCI (3.3V or 5V/3.3V universal) would be way better than ISA.
-
yes PCI would be better.
Ofcourse a 060 would also be better, but it would take a lot more work to implement, unless the GBA 060 board is made public.
Aga, yes I was considering to suggest that, but the board is already made for ecs.
-
Perhaps a board that can use different versions of Agnus, Paula etc? and existing expansions?
As for expansion bus, I'll vote for PCI33/32 and Zorro3

Sounds good.
Why hasn't this been done before?
With the right '060s we could see as high as 100MHz.
AGA, Buster11, the rest of the latest chips, faster IDE (and the other improvements that could be introduced).
This would way outperform a 4000.
In a modern form factor?
you'll have trouble meeting the demand.
How about something like a catweasel floppy interface and a couple SID chips?
-
FYI - I think some are reaching for the stars where there are none. What's being offered up in the other thread is a reprint of the existing 030 rev4 board. Unless I've missed a thread, no one has offered to do a new board design. (Has Georg mentioned such a project on a1k.org?) That would be a huge undertaking. There is the new 060 rev5 board, but that is still A1000 case form and so far isn't public.

I was discussing the possibility of redoing it around a different motherboard form factor but we now have the go ahead for the GBA1000.
