Hey Folks,
I urgently need to convert some FinalWriter Docs, to be read on the PC. The problem is that Final Writer can only export as an ASCII file, and this way all the formating, and pictures, etc, are gone.
Do someone knows if there's a way for doing this ? There's any filter to export in any other format in FinalWriter ???
Thanks in advance !
Marcelo Pires.

This is not exactly what you wanted but should (hopefully) give you something on the other side to work on.
Short: Create your own PDF files with FinalWriter!
Author: elal@dds.nl
Uploader: yoda@stadsnet-rdam.nl
Version: 0.1ß
Type: util/rexx
Adobe's Acrobat (PDF) documents have become the de-facto standard for
(technical) documentation. Now YOU can create your very own using
FinalWriter
DOWNLOAD FROM AMINET AT http://us.aminet.net/aminet/util/rexx/Convert_to_PDF.lha (http://us.aminet.net/aminet/util/rexx/Convert_to_PDF.lha)

hit print
select in print to Postscript file.

PDF files are definately readable, but not easily editable. PS files might be in the same boat. I'd try using the RTF Writer available here (http://www.pidcock.co.uk/rtf/index.html). Or, you can possibly check out the FW group on yahoo groups.

The latest version of FinalWriter has an RTF export and import filter incorporated that works rather well.

It all depends on which version of FinalWriter you have.
FinalWriter97 includes a RTF export option, which is of course able to be loaded into Micro$haft Word. The RTF file format, IIRC, was originally created by M$ to be an "open" wordprocessing format back when M$ were not such a$$holes, and hence became a standard. That being said, you would need FW97 to be able to r/w a RFT file, which would make it possible to transfer most of the formatting, but unfortunalely none of the graphics.
The best solution, as mentioned earlier, is to create a PDF file. One thing you can do is print to a postscript file from FinalWriter, and it does not matter which version of FW, as all of them are able to create postscript files, and then go to http://www.ps2pdf.com (http://www.ps2pdf.com) and follow the directions there to make a PDF file. I've used this site to successully create a PDF, and it works great! This way you will be able to keep all of your formatting and graphics the way you created them in FinalWriter.
Hope this helps!

FinalWriter, as in Softwood? Is the only way of getting a recent version through second-hand ebay?

GGSdata (http://www.ggsdata.se) has FW97 in Swedish though, but maybe you can use some other locale on it. Just pop him an email. :-)

I don't see it on their website...

Uhm, Finalwriter 97 is not very good: it is slow on RTG displays... :-x
