Amiga 500+ 500 plus 1MB Ram Board Expansion

can i put this ram in my amiga 500 ? is this goo ram and what is real price for used ram like this?

The A500 has 512KB RAM onboard and trapdoor-slot was designed to host another 512KB.
The A500+ has 1MB RAM onboard and trapdoor-slot was designed to host another 1MB.
Putting a card designed for the A500 into an A500+ gives you 1.5MB (working) and 2 conflicting clocks.
Putting a card designed for the A500+ into an normal A500 just won't work.
A 512KB card for the A500 should cost no more than 20Euro (if it's more, better search for an A500 with a card fitted at that price).
There are some special cards that are designed for the A500 and carry up to 1.3MB but those would be rather hard to find.

Is there an easy way to upgrade the A500+ Chip RAM ? Besides the trap door memory hack and piggybacking the on-board chips.
I mean, was there ever a solution meant specially as a +1MB Chip RAM. Like there was many Chip RAM add-ons for A600 (now popular A603 and A604).

AFAIK there are no new (Chip)RAM-expansions available for the A500+, but the one S0nic showed in his 1st post would do the job quite nicely.

as a hack. I actually happen to own one of these, and it worked straight away as 2Mb Chip RAM expansion. No other mods required, because A500Plus has 2Mb Agnus from factory. Good luck finding one.

I've had a couple of 500 plus 1MB cards that I've used in a A500, they come up displaying 1MB total including the 500's onboard RAM.

Sonic, that 1mb board is for a 500+ and won't work properly in a normal 500 - if the price is right ill buy it off you for my 500+ if you can't use it.

Kronos, these boards you are talking about sounds very interesting! Do they just work by installing them in the trap door slot? No extra cables or anything, just plug and play?
Do you also know any particular model of these expansions boards so I can do some research on my own?

I keep on wondering why people, when looking for the existence of specific types of hardware, simply never think of checking well known sites like this (http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/ram), where they would (in this case) find hardware like this (http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/a580mk2) just by browsing that particular site... ;-)
Of course, it would also be possible to check sites like this (http://www.bboah.com/) and find hardware like this (http://www.bboah.com/index.php?action=artikel&cat=69&id=2978&artlang=en).

I was referring to the hack with (plain) A500 trapdoor expansion where you have to solder (and cut?) something to turn the Fast RAM into Chip RAM. Totaling in 1MB Chip instead of 512 Chip + 512 Fast.
Yours is obviously a plug and play solution. Makes me wonder why aren't they more common ? And could somebody make those now ?

Cos the A500+ allways has an Agnus capable of addressing 2MB chip, so all 1MB expansion were made to appear as extra chip.
Non+ A500 might contain an orginal "Fat"Agnus only capable of addressing 512KB chip, so the trapdoor was designed to host 512KB of SlowMEM.
Later revisions of the A500 contained either an 1MB Agnus or even an 2MB Agnus (these were really just downgraded A500+ mobos) at which point it made sense to use the extra 512k in the trapdoor as chipMEM.
If you A500 came with an 1MB Agnus standard it's as simple as changing one solder-jumper (JP2 left of the 68k AFAIR) and switching the 512k-expansion of (so it wouldn't be regognized twice).

I've had an A504plus in my A500+ and it gives 4MB Fast RAM memory.

A hack - by definition - is making your hardware do something that wasn't intended by the developers.
So, all trapdoor expansions larger than 512 KB (A500) or 1 MB (A500+) are hacks. They require an adapter fitted to Gary (changing system logic) and running a cable from it to the trapdoor card (for the additional address lines). The additional RAM beyond the 'official' size is always Slow aka Pseudo Fast RAM (=slow as Chipmem but not usable as such).
No hack is modifying a previously 512 KB Chip / 512 KB Slow mem motherboard to 1 MB Chipmem (by replacing Agnus and changing two jumpers). It's a simple mod that was largely intended by the developers.

Yes. All 1 MB trapdoor expansions for the A500+ will appear as +1MB Chip (making 2 MB chip in all) in all A500+ machines. That is what they were intended and designed for.
