I never knew Elbox made a Scandoubler FF.

I don't think I heard of GBS-8220 either.  Wait is that the one from Ebay that got all the bad reviews?

I have an Indy ECS, it works great.  I also have a GBS-8200, which is the same as the 8220, but only has 1 VGA output instead of 2.  I love them both.  My GBS works great.  Once I got everything set on it, it works fine.  I use it on my A500+.  I like it so much, I ordered 4 more yesterday, as I have several other old RGB computers that I would like to use VGA monitors with.  I got the 8200, as it is the same, but cheaper, since I have no need for 2 VGA outputs, only 1.  Hope this helps.

The Elbox one is probably much higher quality.

Which Amiga do u want to use it on?

Amiga 500 has only 4096 colors.

Amiga 1200 has 16777216 colors.

Amiga 1200 is conect to GBS 8220  , in my A500 have I indy ECS

1. GBS 8220 does not accept an Amiga signal on the VGA port like it is supposed to.  It rudely blocks the Amiga 15.75Khz signal from the VGA port.

2. It forces you to connect your beautiful Amiga picture to EGA/CGA which I was told blocks the 16.7 million colors of the Amiga.

I would happily buy one if it didn't seem to be junk.

It might be ok only for A500.

Well, I don't have the problems that some seem to, however, I am only using it on an A500+.  It also worked fine on my A2000HD, which is also ECS.  I also have an Indivision ECS.  I have it installed in my A2000HD.  I will say, though, that I don't play many games, but the ones I have played were OK with the GBS.  But, I can see where someone might have problems depending on the game.  I guess it just depends what you do with your Amiga, as to how satisfied you would be with one.  I can only speak from my own experiences.  But, I will say this,  I paid over $100 for my Indivision ECS, and $27 for the GBS-8200 I have.  I don't think the GBS is junk at all, I think it is a $27 video converter, and for the price, at least from my experience, it is hard to beat for what it will do.  I mean, come on, what do you expect for only $27?  I am completely satisfied with mine, and I am pretty picky, but if you think you won't be, go ahead and get the Indy ECS.  I actually had more problems getting it working than with the GBS, however, it was problems getting the Indy to plug into the socket, not with the Indy itself.   I have read about several people having really bad problems with the Indy, as well, but I can't say that, because I have only had a good experience from mine after the initial problems.  I think the GBS is well worth the $27 just to play around with.

On edit:  When I said get an Indy ECS, I don't know what Amiga you have, so replace that with "A high quality device"  :)

I have a couple of scandoublers and compared them with each other.

While the gbs8220 (the board which is made in china, not the ripoff offered on ebay in the black case) is cheap, about 30 dollars + some for the 5v adapter and making an amiga rgb cable, it works as a scandoubler and flickerfixer, with moderate quality and some lag. Also there is an artefact around fast moving objects such as your mouse pointer on workbench.

The indi mkii aga is neat, especially when you let it run through its dvi output on a compatible lcd screen. Expensive though but saves your videoport and rgb socket for other purposes. Unfortunately not much custom functions as there are no drivers available to change its basic function such as 60 or 50 hz output, etc. And the annoying logo appearing each time a screenmode is changed.

The indi ecs (older versions, not the oned which they sell currently, which need reworks...) is probably the best ecs ff/sd currently available. Very little artefact, not very expensive, output programmable to 60 hz, some extra screenmodes available through and stackable, meaning you can connect multiple of these on top of each other over the denise slot and have multiple lcd monitors hooked up on them.

I will stop here :)

if you want a budget method the gbs 8220 is fine, but dont use the vga input but the rgb input
of it, need to make a cable connevting to the amiga rgb port. Only 4 pins need to be connected, works fine.

Wouldn't recommend the gbs 82XX it's picture out put is just not right. After using an Indi ECS or Indi AGA there's no going back.

The best cheap option is the s-video adapter from Amigamaniac. The picture is fantastic, no VGA option though but this or the SCART option is 100x better than the gbs :-)
