Title: Installing Escom Amiga Workbench 3.1 on an A600
Post by: Spi on January 06, 2013, 02:35:05 PM
Hi. I have an Amiga A600 running Kickstart 3.1 with an A604 memory expansion and a 4GB 2.5'' IDE HDD. I'm trying to install Amiga Workbench 3.1 but experiencing the same problems documented here: http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=51270

I formatted my drive into three partitions, DH0: DH1: and DH2:. DH0 is called 'Workbench'. I boot my Amiga up with the Install disk inserted, start Install via the workbench, it asks me if I want to install Release 3.1 onto the 'Workbench:' partition, I select Yes and it asks me to 'Please insert the "Amiga Workbench" disk Version 3.1 in any floppy drive'. When I put the Workbench disk in and select proceed the screen flashes with the error 'Please insert correct disk to continue!'

Now I know I have inserted the correct disk because the drive clanks and loads, and also the disk icon 'Workbench 3.1' shows up on the workbench screen.

I've checked the Workbench disk can boot, I’m definitely booting from the Install disk, and I’ve checked that the install is pointing to my Workbench: partition. Has anyone else had this problem or know any way I could possibly fix it? Is there an alternative set of Workbench install disks available some place? The ones I have have the following serial numbers: Workbench 370300-98, Fonts 370301-99, Extras 370301-98. Locale 370300-99, Storage 370299-99, Install 370299-98.

The only other alternative I have is to install the HDD into my PC and mount it under emulation, if I need to do that I’ll have to source a guide or ask for help here. I have Amiga Forever 2012 R3 if that would be any help.

The label should be 'Workbench3.1' (without space), not 'Workbench 3.1' (with space).

That totally worked. I renamed the disk to remove that space and it's now installing. You are a legend.

And now you have it working copy the whole of your Workbench partition to one of your other partitions. Will not take up much space. Just that this way if the thing has a problem you can format the Workbench partition and simply copy Workbench back and not only won't you need the floppy disks but you won't even have to switch the Amiga off.

PS Also make a copy of your Workbench disks and use the copies.

I actually use to visit the Escom store in the UK and the guys always tried to get me to buy a PC over the Amiga 1200. So strange.
