This is the message that I get when visiting http://www.whdownload.com:

It looks as it's down right now until DSN update, but looks like it's safe for another year :)

Gah, looks like it might have been pounced on.

It now goes to a parking spot with a buy now option :(  I hope the whdload guys can get it back.

Usually theres a month grace before anyone else can pickup the domain. All domains I've had usually has this, not sure about .com.

I have had hosts that are strict on renewals. Usually you get a notice one month before the end of the plan to renew. If nothing is done then it goes to a parking site for a month before been cancled. Just depends on go daddy's own policy though.
