Clearly I'm too stupid to understand the 30-or-so pages I've already read of forum posts about whitening Amiga plastics, so I'll just ask:
Would these products work?
Salon Care 40 Volume Clear Developer 32 oz., from Sally Beauty Supply

Mix 1/2 teaspoonful of the Oxy to every 32 oz. of the developer, put it in a glass jar, dump my keys in it, and stick it in the sun for a day.
Does this sound like it would work, or am I more likely to wind up with mustard gas? ;-)

Is what I use does a great job. I brush over the entire plastic with a even covering of the cream peroxide and then I wrap it in clean film and I find leaving it on a window sill works great the sun seems to be amplified through the glass.
On a good day 4 to 5 hours works great. No need for the oxy action stuff :-)
As for the keys I use a fine paint brush and the above and it works a treat even on the darker grey keys :-)

Yup, I can confirm what Lurch said. I have a 9% cream and it still works. I imagine that 12% is even better. Same method: rub it all over and leave it on a window on a sunny day :)

It's great stuff :-) 9% is also great too, tried that. Bought mine locally, local pharmacy didn't have any didn't want to go around all of them asking.
Once was bad enough, had to explain why I needed it. In the end bought it through trademe which is a local auction site :-)

That combo works Mike. I bought the exact same thing from Sally's Beauty Supply. I used a plastic container from Walmart to drop everything in, as I did my entire Amiga case, keyboard, and mouse, and came out great. I dumped a whole bunch of Oxy Clean in mine. Didn't cause any foaming but had to be stirred a bit to dissolve.
I did have a couple of caveats. The Salon 40 only came in 32 ounce bottles. Next time, I may just go with the 20, as two gallons is roughly 17 dollars, and you need every bit of that to submerge everything. The 40 gets a little expensive when buying in 32 ounce increments, and I'm not sure how much additional benefit your getting for the extra money, if any.
Second, I had a problem keeping some of the pieces completely submerged, so have to figure that out without leaving a mark by placing something heavy on it. Maybe tying some fishing weights to the underside with fishing line.
Third, the 40 developer will burn your hands, and eyes, so make sure that you wear some protection. I played tough guy and it turned my skin white and burned any cuticle or cuts that it came into contact with.
Use the UV from sunlight. I tried a black light for night time processing, and it was a waste of time. I guess if you have a true UV-B bulb, it would be different, but you'll be spending at least $50, so I just used the free sunshine.
I was getting nice results in a 4-5 hour time frame, so I was able to cook two different plastic batches per day.
Definitely works and you can see a discernible difference when completed.

Thanks! Most of these websites list things commonly available in Europe, but if I can't find it at my local Walmart here in North America I'm usually S.O.L., lol. ;-) And your experience sounds exactly like what I'd try: playing "tough guy", haha.

No its not enough use sunlight. You arent in Finland ur in DC plenty of Sun!

Sunlight is always better than any bulb, but if I had a UV-B laying around, I definitely would have used it at night once the sun went down. Might speed things up, might not, but certainly worth a try!

So, all done, worked great, thanks for the tips! I shot some video that I'll probably throw up on youtube, it's mostly of me cussing about not knowing what I'm doing, I wiped up most of the @$^#@ foam off my bathroom floor before hitting record, LOL. ;-)
I'll attach a couple pictures, color is still off a bit but that's more due to the flash on my camera, the Miggy looks great! Hopefully the quality won't get chopped too bad here, see if you can spot the one small piece I forgot to do in the second pic! ;-)

Nice job, the good thing I noticed is it only takes 3-5 hours to go from yellow to white :-)
Just did my A1200 keyboard, looks mint. Downside is it only lasts a few months and things start to slowly yellow again.
So may end up painting it :-(
