Title: Catweasel MKIV, PC floppy, PC power supply and other questions
Post by: Florida on December 22, 2012, 11:45:36 AM
Hi all!

-Does the CatWeasel MKIV get power through the motherboard or power supply?

-Does this (power supply) have the plugs needed for floppy?
 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256075
I see it has the 4-Pin Floppy connector, but I thought I would ask just to be sure.

-Does the CatWeasel work under Windows 8?

-Would I be able to inset a regular DD Amiga floppy into my PC Mitsumi (HD) drive hooked up to the CatWeasel and then be able to transfer the disk? I don't need to modify the drive, right?

-Who sells the CatWeasel at this point?

Hi,
First thing - getting a Catweasel Mk iV is very tricky these days. They've not been made for a while now.
Secondly - don't worry about power. The Catweasel Mk  IV is a PCI baord. You just need to power the floppy (from the PSU).
Thirdly - I believe Catweasels and Mitsumis don't play together nicely! Use Teac, Sony, that sort of thing.
Lastly - I suspect it won't work under Windows 8 anyway. You'll almost certainly need to disable "Enforce Signed Drivers" and Win 8 has only given me trouble when it comes to even slightly unexpected hardware.

The best platform for using a Catweasel is with an AmigaOS 4 machine, even though it's not officially supported. But then, I would say that, wouldn't I? :)
