Title: AROS Broadway 0.86 rc1 - last chance to help : )
Post by: phoenixkonsole on December 20, 2012, 12:02:04 PM
Hi,

if you find time, please test the latest Fabio Falcucci and Pascal Papara production called AROS Broadway 0.86 codenamed "redux".

What is Broadway?

It is a AROS i386 distribution made mainly for AresOne and compatible systems.
It still works on all other system which are supported by AROS. It is preconfigured regarding Internet and Sound. So on other HW you will need to change Network- and Audio prefs.
If you like to change screenmode and neet to test it please close the quickstarter(dock) with ctrl+c and the clock with a right click on it. Else the resolution can't be changed on the fly. You can also just click "save" and reboot.

Important notes:
This is the second test ISO, so the big failures should be gone already.
Please just wait for the confirmation of Installation!!
Postscript-process can take 3 minutes (maybe even 5 on AROM)
It is just because i squeezed 1.3GB of date on a CDROM... so it needs to be uncompressed!

Tomorrow night I will upload the final ISO, so there is a last chance to to some enhancements, fixes.

Todo for the final:
Allow the user to switch between large 64x64 and 32x32 pixel large Icons.
Update some of the included apps(if their is no regression)

////////////////////////////////////////////////////
- just check if Intro has sound! (there are now several boards in the wild and there was sometimes trouble with the hdaudio.config of other distros (or nightly).

I have removed many games especially DOOM,Quake and DukeNukem

Added
Annotate
XAMOS
BOH
G.E.M.Z
Updates OWB including js scripts
Broadway Boulevard (nothing more than a jump site to AROS specific websites)

If you choose Rescue(live-mode) you will see only a reduced set of applications!
Only enough to chat (IRC),  surf OWB, read PDF, copy to USB and so on...
everything you could need to rescue or restore your setup.

Added music, Wallpapers and a video to test multimedia
(Many thanks to Welle:Erdball)

Final should be ready on friday.

I do not know why I hve this feeling that AROS that was ones a stand-alone Amiga like OS for x86 have become an OS using linux kernal with AROS theme. Maybe I am all wrong here...but it is does not feel like Amiga to me...again it is all preserved as preception and I am may be mistaken.

Anyone can help me here on this?

This is about native AROS. No linux is involved.
It comes with JanusUAE and a AmigaForever Installer. It is full of Amiga apps ported over to AROS..

So basically i am showing only the new part.. this time I am on a C64 revival trip and show you the new boot menu.

How to Install AmigaForever:

One reason why Broadway stays <1.0 since years is because I wan't to add new features on OS side and new apps... not just conserving 20 year old apps.
So yeah.. at the end Broadway look a lot less like Amiga... But I like to add Dopus Magellan on the desktop side...

Mapple says: "Think differently" : )

I use icaros, have not tried broadway yet but I will. I've said this before, but no comment back from you...

Holy huge icons... Why are the icons in broadway so huge? In your video, just 16 icons taking up almost half the workbench/desktop...

Would it work in an Acer Aspire One ZG5 (netbook)?

In the final you can switch between 32x32, 48x48(like on IcAROS) and 64x64 pixel sized Icons.

The large the resolution.... the smaller the ICons.. so for 1080+ I like the original 64x64 Icons.

Acer Aspire One ZG5 (netbook)?
Don't know... if AROS supports it, than yes. I made no exclusions of drivers.

Thats much better looking... I don't really like the doc either.... looks SO retro, but maybe thats what you were going for. Can I use the startbar icaros comes with instead of that? Going to download this and try it in virtualbox...

Looks nice, good work.

What about aeros? Are you still working on that? I think that would be so awesome, aros running linux apps...

Still working on the final ISO.... hope to be ready tomorrow...
- One bug left
- Finishing the Icon scale change script
- Making it impossible that a user aborts the install script as long it isn't finished

Sure you could use Amistart or whatever you like.. You would just need to install it....

AEROS will be updated.... maybe I can manage it short after christmas..
It will come with an installer for AspireOS and IcAROS too.

To be honest.. the following thing have priority for me:
ViCON a video(batch)converter for AROS, MOS and AmigaOS
IndieGO! gaming system

Testing with Virtualbox & VMware player.

- During coping 1272130415_HP_Pictures-folder-dock-512.info (64%), broadway always crashes/locks up. Installing the next time without formatting, give errors (AFFS) 'Wrong blocktype on block ...' and 'Read error -5 on block ...'.
- When overwriting, there's no way you can say 'NO [always]'.

doesn't happen for me. How much ram did you give the vm? you need 1gb to be save because parts need to be moved to ramdisk during installation.

Gave it between 1.5 and 2 GB ram. Also tried 256 MB. Same error.
Looks like FFS filesystem trashes the disk.

No problems with icaros 1.4.5 on vmware and virtualbox.
