Title: Amiga OS3.9 Setpatch and Proggies
Post by: jeffimix on January 25, 2004, 03:18:45 AM
I have this kinda problem. I recently got amigaOS3.9 working on my 'A2000 (thanks Ryu) and I have one slight problem... well okay it's kinda big.

If I use the Setpatch it came with, with no extra settings, everything works fine, but my GFX card's software, RetinaEmu (no it can't use CGX) won't put the workbench on thru the Retina. If I replace that setpatch with an older one (like the one from Aminet, or the 3.1 disks) RetinaEmu works, but now none of the prefs work, and WBloader+ doesn't work. Does the new Setpatch do something that might interfere with the retina, what does it do differently from older setpatchs?

OS3.5 and up is known to break old graphics systems. Both CGX and P96 had to be updated for it, and RetinaEmu wasn't.

The reason none of the prefs work when you use the WB3.1 setpatch is because the new icon.library and workbench.library aren't loaded by the old one. These are needed for all Reaction apps (all of the Prefs progs), and for the OS3.9 wblaunch.library (the lib WBLoader+ uses to launch apps).

You're left with a hard choice now - forget your graphics card and stick with OS3.9, or downgrade to 3.1. Sorry.
