Hello To All! Could someone please enlighten me on what application I would use to view gifs and jpegs? I upgraded to OS 3.5 and cant seems to view and graphics files. Thanks Much and have a nice weekend to all!
-
Visage is a good one just to view them.
Art Department Pro to convert. Ham Lab+ if you only have ECS.(works well on my Minimig 1.1 3.5 mb)
-
I thought 3.5 came with datatypes to view GIFs and JPEGs in Multiview.
-
I recommend getting all 4 of these:
Visage
Viewtek
FastJpeg_AGA
Mostra
They are free from Aminet.
If u have a gfx card then there are others but I have no experience with them. I only recommend things I have experience points with.
p.s. I hate datatypes. :)

If you want to view really large images (any format) I'd recommend ImageFX. You can throw any size at it and it will scale it down to the preview screen perfectly (you'll have to set the preview screen mode though to your preference in prefs).

OS3.5 should open jpg/gif pictures through datatypes to multiview. There is something wrong in your installation.

I think the install is ok, im just un informed on how to do it. I will get into it today. Thanks very much to all who replyed!!!! Thanks again

Im going to get a few apps from Aminet tonite and use amiga exploror to put them on the amiga. in the mean time can anyone quickly explain how to use datatypes? Im just getting back into this and I am quit rusty! Thanks again to all!

Eye Viewer from here:
http://www.morguesoft.com
Besides plays songs and you can handle the graphics, also show the pictures with slideshow.
-
Try this viewer by meynaf from EAB: http://meynaf.free.fr/pr/mv.lzx.
This viewer is fast and renders in great quality HAM8. Supports IFF, BMP, GIF, PNG, JPEG and some other formats. Needs AOS3.x and AGA. Note that BMP files are rendered from bottom to top.

I like ImageFX. Granted it's overkill for just a viewer - but If you're viewing the graphics, chances are pretty good you'll want to work on them too. Right?

The Datatypes concept was a way to modularize programs that 'view' other files that contain data (text, Amigaguides, sound, images, animations, etc). Multiview is an engine that can view or play any data file provided there is a Datatype for that file in your "SYS: Devs/Datatypes" directory. Unused (inactive) datatypes are stored in your "SYS:Storage/Datatypes" directory.
Each time a new picture format, for example, evolves, Multiview does not need to be revised to "see" it. There simply needs to be a new Datatype that tells Multiview how to interpret the data in the file. Very cool! Multiview came with OS 3.x and above (there is a Multiview for OS 2.x that uses the WhatIS library, I believe). Since it came standard with the OS, Multiview has always served as a great default viewer for files that are to be distributed among many Amiga users (so you should configure it, ;) ). Other Amiga programs use datatypes and make use of this modular concept as well.
Datatypes are great but not always the fastest way to do the job. The reason Visage and Viewtek were recommended by others is that they are optimized to render the most common picture formats with less delay than the stock Commodore Datatypes. There are, however, faster datatypes available on Aminet. The Warp series datatypes are much faster than stock.
Some other fast and convenient viewers are: Textview and Next (text files), APDF (for Acrobat PDFs), Play16 and Songplayer (for sounds), MooVID and Riva (for video, very fast for RTG).

Yes the Meynaf viewer "should" be the best. I was in horrible pain when it came out so never tried it ... then forgot about it. Ooops :)
Meynaf knows how to code so it should be awesome for AGA.
Would be interesting to see timing test race of Meynaf vs. FastJpeg_AGA
If u r using RTG gfx card then u need something very different.

Then go and try it NOW :D

Yeah, it's great for AGA. Renders faster and better than FastJpeg AGA as far as I know. JPEG is never going to be fast, but the HAM8 rendering is very good (and fast), and the fact that all the common formats are supported makes it even better. It's command line only, though.

Love too. But I am in the middle of trying to build a proper keyboard or I will never get my pain under any kind of control. Taking forever...

Get an 060 :)

Command line is awesome! Its ez to make a gui for a cli command if one wanted.
