Post by: adolescent on January 23, 2004, 06:53:12 PM
What are the best PC keyboard and mouse adapters are for the A4000?  And, how much?

For keyboard I am obviously partial to the Lyra (http://www.jschoenfeld.de/products/lyra_e.htm) adapter. I sell them for $35 + shipping.

@adolescent:

For keyboard I would also recommend the Lyra adapter (manufactured by Individual Computers). It has some small nifty details like mapping of home to shift + leftarrow, end to shift plus rightarrow, pgdown to shift + downarrow and pgup to shift + uparrow.

For mouse I have heard that The Ultimate Amiga PS/2 Wheel Mouse Controller (http://rdc.gfns.net/ps2m/index.html) is a good solution, but unfortunately that one you have to build yourself.

How well would this work with an A4000 and a PS/2 KVM switch?

I agree, (although its the only one I've tried)
The LYRA KB adaptor works great and 'Redrumloa's
price is good. I payed more a Software Hut.
Also I bought my mouse adaptor at Software hut.
I can't remember the exact name of it right now
but it was kind of like a 'Polish' name, you'll
know it when you see it. I have an optical mouse
and wouldn't go back to a ball mouse.

@Jeff:

It should work like a charm. Even if the KVM is an old mechanical one it should work as the Lyra I got here doesnt seem to object if I disconnect and connect the PS/2 kb while running.

KVM was actually the reason for me getting a PS/2 adapter... wouldnt mind using the Amiga-kb otherwise, but it is a pain in the ass to exchange keyboards on the desk.

Punchillo/Topollino MKIII is suppossedly the best ps/2 converter, purchaseable from KDH in Germany for around 30 euros i think.

Elbox sells keyboard converters too...

I've used both of these with my 2-port KVM switch, works fine.

Mine of course :)
www.revanchellc.com

Can be brought from me as a RAKA or from compuquick or Mr hardware computers as a MRK2D. I sold a ton to sofware hut until joe found out he could make more profit selling lyras instead of mine. Now if you order a MRK2D he subsitutues a Lyra instead.

The Lyras I tested were not very good at least not the early ones. They only  worked with about 50% of all Windows keyboards and would spit out gibberish along with the correct keycodes. I even had an A2000 that refused to boot if a lyra was plugged in.
Try using keytest with a Lyra. I will send it to anyone who wants it. Hit multiple keys at once watch the correct codes come out and a few giberish ones. Now every correct key resultes in a correct keycode being sent and an unknown code. Most programs just ignore the unkown codes so most people don't realize whats happening.

 Mine works with 100% of all keyboards is flash upgradable and has a five year warranty. Got some really nifty shortcuts built in. Menu key flips screens,F11 & F12 cut and paste,print Screen is right Amiga P. More importantly it has the correct US keymaps built in. Plus Multimedia keys are mapped as two button amiga combo's so no external software is needed. It got excellent reviews in the magazines and such.

My Mouse adapter again is available through me or others. I sell mine as a RAMA don't recall what russ or randir call it. It supports 5 buttons and scroll has joystick passthrough is newmouse compatible. Again has a five year warranty and is flash upgradable so as mice change and new features are asked for. They can be upgraded. Software is only required for buttons four and five and the scroll.

Been making them for dealers over the last 8 years now and I am only now starting to sell them directly since. I decided to start my own bussiness.

Hey Red if interested I am allway's looking for dealers.

interesting, have you compared elbox PC-Key 2.00 converter to it, as i'm not very satisfied with it, but apparently it was the best one on the market.

I can't have multiple key presss on it for instance, how well does your adaptor handle this?

I'd just like to point out I used to have a punchinello mk2, and it didn't supply enough power for my cordless trackball - either plugged in on it's own or through the KVM - however power up the KVM and it all worked ok again...

www.revanchellc.com makes the best adapters like he said. You can press more then one key just fine and it works fantastic! You would be a fool to get anything else. Red you need to sell these as well at least.
