Title: Amiga computers
Post by: Vlabguy1 on November 12, 2012, 01:30:04 AM
..seems a recent search on Ebay has come up a bit slim on Amiga models being offered, especially 3000's.  Are these rare?

Which eBay (country) were you looking at?

3000 seem to be pretty rare.  Unfortunately way to many have become damaged from battery damage.  I have seen and helped friends in the last 10 years or so and every 3000 was damaged from the battery.  Sad to say that the only 3k I know of that the owner was anal enough to change out the battery way before it was time and keep the mb in perfect condition is, well, myself...

The 3k has always been the perfect Amiga to me, it was made in the hayday of commodore and they kept the quality components to a higher standard.  They are the perfect size, IMHO.  Good luck in finding a decent one!

One can find them in the US in either need of repair or cleaned up status post battery leakage. Personally I went from a towerized A2000 to an A4000T for the chipset advantage, space, dual video slot and dual hard drive controllers

Add me to the "perfect Amiga 3000" group.  I bought an Amiga 3000 extremely cheap.  It had a perfect motherboard with a brand new barrell battery installed.  The battery looked very nice and worked perfectly fine, but I didn't have a choice.....it had to go.

You got to get yourself an Amiga 3000, they're awesome.

So for every A3000 sold there's 130 A500 sold and 11 A1200. I think that should hint that they are very rare to start with!
So have the expectations on a realistic level ;)

Personally I own 3 A3000's (one a UX), but have never gotten my hands on a 1200 or 4000. Someday...

3000s seem to be saught after and held on to. Small size maybe? Accelerated. Built in flicker fixer so you can use VGA monitors is definately a factor. ZorroIII for the better video cards. Hard Drive controller. You really need buy nothing more with a 3000 and have a great Amiga.

Well anyone who knows anything about Amiga knows that the A500/2000 sold more than the A3000.  The A3000 was very expensive and aimed more for Professionals. So with that said--will be harder to find out in the wild ~20 years later.  The odds are much better for A500/2000's as can be seen whilst searching for Amigas today.  ;)

My high school had an A1000, A2000, A2500, A3000, and an A2000 with video toaster.
I think I'm going to contact the school board and see if they still have them in storage.
It's a long shot, but when I was a student using those Amigas, the board still had all of their CBM PET machines in storage, so you never know.
