Post by: Jose on January 23, 2004, 04:57:02 PM
Hey. Is the latest AHI version worth installing on 68k systems? Does it have more overhead?

From my experience, AHI v5 strangles the 680x0 to death. It used over 40% of my 040 just for a single stream from AmigaAMP. None of the old fast modes are available which were perfect for simple streaming applications (IMHO).

So, running AHI apps made my system sluggish and unresponsive with v5.

It actually took me a while to realise what was causing my system to lag so badly. Going back to 4.18 shed the ball and chain and made my system snappy again.

here is a tip , DONT USE THE LAME 5.x on any AMIGA with os3.x or lower...

it will crash you and hog your os to death..,

have no idea on how its on a pc or a mac or linux driven one... i only know how its on a real amiga.

pps:its rather good on morphos with a pegasos though , or heh so i have heard anyway

I've got no problems with the 5.x AHI version that came with Mediator update (the latest one). Hmmm. Will have to check and see how much it stalls the system.
