Title: Radeon 9800XT re-flashed for Mac use
Post by: Iggy on October 26, 2012, 01:30:00 AM
I know most Amiga and MorphOS users tend to stick to R200 based cards, but as the MorphOS development team has fast tracked the development of R300 3D drivers I've been offering to convert these cards for fellow MorphOS users for free.

Attached is a picture of a Radeon 9800XT 256MB card with a Zalman copper cooler and blue memory heatsinks.

I prepped this card for a Greek friend who posts on MorphZone - Cool_amigaN
What do you think Stefanos, pretty cool, huh?

Oh, and in other serious retro weirdness, I'm sitting here with a Pentium III system that I've overclocked to 1.6 GHz (I've been using it to re-flash the video cards).

P3's good stuff. According to a lot of benchmarks I've seen it outperforms the P4 clock-for-clock by 25-50%. What'd you overclock it from?

Well, I don't think I've got this thing close to maxed since I kinda cheated and started with the fastest PIII ever made (the 1.4 Tualatin core).
But if I want to boost this higher I'm going to need better cooling (pity I sold all my high quality copper Socket A coolers).
And you're right. Per clock cycle the PIII outperforms the P4 in everything except memory benchmarks.

That why, when they introduced Netburst, I told my customers to buy AMD.

Still, I wanted to see if I could clock a real PIII as fast as my Intel Atom netbook. Once I get around to installing Windows on this thing (not needed for the video card work) I'll try a few benchmarks.
I'm curious to see how well it stacks up to an Athlon.

I've got an Athlon running at 1.4GHz; drop me a line with the benchmarks you're using and we'll compare notes.

Holy crap man! That's awesome! Can't wait to test it :) We need to get the R300 drivers asap after this :P

I need to get AmigaDave to ship me the G5 we've agreed to exchange so that I can up the bios clocks to XT speeds.
Then we should be good to go.
Stefanos, this is a little late to ask, but what model Powermac do you have?
